Does Windows 8 Pro have the Windows 7 pro feature for XP emulation? If not I might instead upgrade to 7 Pro.

Thanks! I noticed that my new HP desktop will create an emergency disk, while my wife's laptop same 7 Home premium OS will not. So I don't have to upgrade to use the disk image backup. Hopefully my emergency disk will do for hers also, both are 64-bit.

Not sure what your above comment has to do with "XP Emulation" mode you asked about....

My new desktop came W7 home with a $15 upgrade-to-W8 Pro. My wife's laptop 64 bit bought in May gives an error message (this is common) when you try to create the emergency disk. I think the emergency disk my system made should work on hers. Funny, her Win 7 home is completely updated, don't know why I can and she can't, anyway the upshot is no real reason to move to W8 and it loses some XP compatibility.

Did HP make your wife's laptop if so call HP Support 1-800-474-6836(In USA). It is covered by the Manufacturer for One year from date of purchase. Just have the laptops S/N and P/N ready. Both should located on the bottom of the laptop or in the upper righthand corner of the battery compartment. Hope this helps and good luck.
