Hi, I have Lenovo T500(#2082-3hu). Came with vista- Upgraded to Win7.
Works OK, but won't go to sleep(tried all power settings)
Lenovo won't help despite my extended warranty!!
A real nuisance-have to leave laptop on for extended time periods.

    Any ideas would be appreciated:)

Sorry can't figure out how to do this:

Thanks but can't figure out how to do this:

Start your troubleshooting by running powercfg /energy from a command prompt.

When finished, copy C:\Windows\System32\energy-report.html to the desktop & open it with IE

Start (Orb) > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt - right click > Run as Administrator

In the Command Window which opend type, at the flashing cursor .....

powercfg -energy and press Enter. Be sure to include the space in the command.

The report is saved to .....

    C:\Windows\system32\energy-report.html

Double click on the .html file to open in IE

The first item it the report that stands out ....
Your original post does not mention if the sleep issue arises whether or not the laptop is plugged into the mains or running on battery.

Would you check that the power settings are similar to those shown in the screenshot from my laptop below - i.e. there is a time set for sleep for both battery and mains power.

    T500 Win7 Sleep problem

I set it that way since laptop would shut down in sleep mode whether on AC or battery- that is why I usually keep it plugged in.
Also when I press fn-f4 it shuts off(crashes) rather than sleeps.

    Thanks
    Bob

I did the Lenovo update which supposedly updated those drivers. Any specific ones I should check?

Is this the Lenovo update you applied? ....

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73695

Did you uninstall previous versions as noted at the bottom of the page?

You may have already installed the Power Management driver dated 11 Dec 2009, but there is a very recent update to the Power Manager dated Nov 2010 - I would install that.

If I understand correctly the computer crashes when entering sleep - with a blue screen (BSOD)?

Have you looked in Event Viewer for any errors timed when you initiate sleep manually?

I get a black screen Windows Error Recovery with option to use safe mode-no Blue screen.
Looked at Event log after fn-f4 sleep "crash" where I must completely shut off computer and restart. Nothing mentioned about sleep problem-only shut down issues that I don't understand.
The update was done thru Lenovo Thinkvantage productivity software on 12/18. I have never uninstalled any drivers. For example I have the latest Power Management upgrade listed.

    Frustrating

    Many Thanks
    Bob
BTW after fn-f4 I get a plain black screen after which I can only shut off and restart. Then I get the black Win Error screen I mentioned.

As mentioned Lenovo refuses to help since I bought my laptop shortly before they changed from vista to win7, though I followed their win7 upgrade instructions on their website.

    Really ***** doesn't it!!

    Thanks anyway for trying:)

It was the forum I suggested - not Lenovo support - where anyone can post as here at WindowsBBS.
