    Hi,
A couple of days ago I noticed that I was niot able to access the internet so I decided to try "Diagnose Connection Problems. I tried the suggestions but to no avail.

I then tried to Restore System files and settings and I got this message:
"X No restore points have been created on your computer's system disk.

I then tried to "open System Protection" and received this message:
The System Restore wizard is already running. The program will now exit. "
    (It was not running.)

Windows Security Center windows tells me: Security Center can't turn on Windows Firewall. As I look at the Security Center, the firewall is off and if I try to turn it on it won't turn on. It also said Automatic updating is off and when I try to turn it on it says, "Securityy Center can't change your automatic updating settings. Malware protection is on and I have run Malware Bytes several times whit one or two PUP files which I have deleted.

I was able to finally run SFC and it created a CBS.log file which I finally found out how to open. It has about 126 pages of text so I don't think I should attach it.

My question is, if possible, could I get my computer working without reformatting it. I have moved most of my documents to this laptop but I would much rather use my Windows Vista Desktop with my large monitor.

Is there a place that I should start checking? I don't think I have been hit by a virus as I'm usually careful but one never knows.

I would really appreciate some help with this as I have been trying to fix this problems for about 5 days.

    Thank you.

I also ran "Error Checking" but this was no help either.
    Jeanne

Virus or Malware comes to mind here. What are you running for security?

That is for a Virus only. Will not find any Malware/Spyware. You need special programs to do that. One that is really good at what it does for that in Malware Bytes. There is a FREE and a paid version. The FREE version does a good job.

Usually a Virus or Malware will cause the problems you are having.

You can download Malware Bytes to a thumb drive and try running it on the PC or else, try booting the PC in Safe Mode with Networking and see if it will let you get on line.

I was able to run Malwarebytes and I received this message:
The scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected.

I did run this earlier but I forgot to mention it.

    Thanks.

Full scan or Quick Scan? Did you update it before you ran it? They have at least 1 and sometimes 4 or 5 updates every day. I agree with Whiskeyman on posting in the Malware Section. Broni is good at what he does.

Yes,I ran full scan but could not update it because I could not get on the internet.
I posted as you advised to the Malware Forum and Broni is going to try to help me. I posted in the Malware section with the same title so maybe we will be able to close this issue out in this Forum. Right?. Thank you.
