When I boot-up, I get the Command-Prompt and it says "Strike the F-1 key ". Of course, when I do, all's well. What can I do to eliminate this step?

It would help no end if you filled in your System Details, then at least we would know the hardware you are running - which is a good starting point :)

Usually, all you need to do is go into the BIOS (setup), then Save and Exit. It resets the BIOS's default hardware.

Try F2, Save and Exit (probably the F10 key).

No luck... Not only has there been no change, but I haven't been able to set a Normal Start mode in msconfig for awhile, either. I click the appropriate boxes, etc., but nothing changes. I use Spybot, CCleaner, Avast, and of course keep up with the MS Updates. Something obviously got thru. If I wipe the HD and do a reload of XPPro (probably due anyway), will the BIOS setting "reset" as well, or do I have to correct that problem first?
