    An Update.
I have been using EZ for about a month & all is well.
I have had to play around with privacy settings for some sites but overall, I am impressed with the product.

I also requested "The Windows® Security Update CD contains security updates" from Microsoft & when it arrived, there was included a CD from Computer Associates, of EZ Armor.

I assume that after my free year expires on the download, I will be able to install the CD & have another free year, as it will have it's own registration number imbedded into the program.

    Love this Free stuff:D

I have just ordered the Microsoft CD. The information given in PC World never mentioned the additional CD, nor did the MS site. I will be interested to see my order is filled with the EZ Armor CD. On general principles, I am always happier with a CD than just a download. I feel more secure with a hard copy at hand, just in case.

I do wonder, though, whether the EZ Armor CD installation will still be valid in another 10 or 11 months. That's a long time to go, and things change and/or expire . . .

I doubt it very much :D

Programmers may be incompetent at times, but generally not that stupid!!

Now that I think about it, I remember that one of my attempts to re-download EZ as a suggested solution to the program I was having with it, resulted in a finger-wagging admonition "One to a customer ".

I have bravely followed "the mob "!!!! and installed and ran EZ.

Number of files that could not be scanned: 43 was the result.

Is this normal that a virus scanner cannot open some files and if that is the case then couldn't there be a virus lurking in any of the unopened.???????

    Just asking.

Ask Sammy, why are some files not scanned. You will get several links that answer your question.

Frankly, Ask Sammy's rresponses are often irrelevant to the max.

    Web browser

This is probably a dumb question, but does it matter which web browser you use. Would it protect my netscape mail?

I've always been told and believe that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask, until it was too late. :) There were some connection issues with older firewall and older Netscape versions, but I believe they have been worked out with upgrades to both. The email scanning should work fine regardless of the account type since anything downloaded to your computer will be scanned.

    Using other browsers

I went to their website for info, and found that it said to use with IE. So I'm hesitant to use this.

I did a search on this thread and noticed no one mentioned Sygate Personal Firewall .

I was using Kerio, but having problems with stuttering in 3D applications. Turns out Kerio was causing it, so I tried Sygate.

Not a bad little Firewall. If you don't have one you might want to check it out. Here's a few screenshots to give give you an idea of what to expect.

Shows a nice little Graph page

Keeps a log of all Scans, and lets you do a backtrace to find out who was snooping.

BTW...these "Verio" scans were from Sygates site. You can get a free scan and other services here.

All in all, I'd say a pretty nice firewall for free...

Oh yeah, and of course you can keep control of allowed Applications.

    Hi folks,

    Great thread!

I am compelled to ask your opinion(s) though. I've been using AVG (free AV), Zone Alarm (free firewall), and AdAware (free spyware scanner) for some time now. I also install these on other PC's I build up for folks as a hobby. I keep 'em updated and scan for spyware and viruses often (and tell my friends to do the same). On the rare occasion I've run into nasties that AVG can't get rid of (usually because they have to be removed via DOS), I run F-Prot for DOS (also free). I haven't run into a problem I couldn't solve so far... but...

edit: Oops forgot another key component in my present scheme: Mailwasher... also free and one killer program...

Am I getting old and out of step? Do you think I should upgrade to paying for protection from the wierdo folks on the net?

    No way :D

What you use is good, but add to that list Spybot and SpywareBlaster - all updated regularly, of course :)

EzTrust? does not start until I select it.

On a 30 day trial of EZ Firewall, which comes up all the time in my tray, (WinXP)

Also on trial of EZ trust anti virus,

The Antivirus does not come up until I launch it.

    Any comments?
