I operate Windows XP Home (see system specs).
I endeavoured to empty the Recycle Bin of some 26 objects and an error window appeared with the following.

X Error deleting file or folder.
    Cannot delete Dc53: Access denied.

It then read.....Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file
    is not currently in use.

I then restored all items and selected a no longer needed letter from my documents to test.

On trying to empty this from the recycle bin, I got the same error message.
Strangely, the confirmation window said there were 2 items in the bin, when in fact there was only 1.

    Thanks....Joker

Your Recycle Bin is corrupted. There are a couple of super-hidden files there that are not visible while in Windows. One is called info32, which is probably the corrupted file.

Delete all the files you originally wanted to delete. Then do this:

    Open an elevated command prompt.

Start Button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Use this command followed by pressing the Enter key, which will remove the Recycle Bin and cause Windows to recreate it:
    Code:
    rd /s C:\recycler
Rt click the Desktop & select Refresh.

You can also use a Microsoft FixIt program to accomplish the same result:
Can't empty the Recycle Bin in Windows XP or in Windows Vista

Many thanks Tony T. I elected to go with option 2 that you gave me. When I ran the Microsoft tool, a window opened and made reference to a threat removal of 4 red square severity and to restart my PC immediately. I restarted and then tested the Recycle bin and everything appears okay.
    Thanks for your help.
Great service as usual from you guys.

    You're welcome.

Please explain as best you can the "threat warning ". It may be wise to post a new thread in the malware forum if the warning was related to more than just a corrupted Recycle Bin.

There are several Recycle Bin malware variants that use autorun files and a payload, and get spread via USB devices and thumb drives.

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Yes Tony T, I was hoping you would pick up on my 'resolved post' on the Recycle bin, as I thought there may be more to it also.
When I ran the M/soft Fixit tool, AVG ID displayed window, Threat Removal.
I was able to get a Screen Shot which read.
    C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\XIVVDLDO\MICROSOFTFIXIT.WINFOLDER.RUN[1].EXE

    Severity level 4 red bars
    Summary 1 process terminated
    1 file removed

I then did a full system scan with AVG 2011 and also with Malwarebytes and both scans came up clean.
Everything seems to be running okay. Is there any need to go further ?
    Cheers...Joker.

The FixIt seems to run rather than be saved and then executed. I would go to the MS site again, then temporarily disable the antivirus protection, then run the FixIt. After it does its stuff, re-enable the antivirus. Post back with results.

    Back again Tony T.
Did as you suggested and successfully ran Fixit.
Result...No problems encountered. The penny just dropped, in that, the AVG quarantined the Fixit tool exe that I tried to run the first time !!!
Am I correct to assume that all is now okay ?
    Thanks... Joker

Yes, I would consider all OK now.

If AVG has a function to submit the quarantined FixIt then do so. Then maybe a future set of definitions will not flag the FixIts (false positives).
