I see this often. A pause in whatever's happening. Especially while typing.
Someone told me to look in MSCONFIG to see if something is running in the Background.
This is what I get. I copied the pate to MSPaint. Then to my pictures, then to photobucket. I hope you can read it. The original file was way too big to move around.
Im afraid I dont know enough to be monkeying around in MSCONFIG. Do you see anything running in the background that might be causing my problem, that I can change or get rid of?

    Hi thudpucker,

A couple of problems with your picture.

    1) The resolution is that low it would be impossible for anyone to ascertain any useful information...

    2) However, there's just enough there to show even if it were clear as day there is no useful information there to be gained.

Also, I've a small query about your system details, Was XP home ever released as 64bit?

Do you see anything hogging memory/processor in task manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del and click the processes tab). Note: Ignore System Idle Process but list anything else that's showing over say 10% in CPU.

Your memory is fairly low for a PC nowadays but I'm running on less with no major issues.

I tried all moning to use "Print Screen" and MS Paint or GIMP to make that picture of the MSCONG large enough to see and yet the PC could send it to Photobucket.
Couldn't do it. I could use a margin of instruction in that area.

There were several pages of MSCONFIG. Maybe some of the other pages would be useful?

Nothing in my Task manager is using the processor except my iTunes (02-03%)

    OK,

Let's start from the basics and make sure you have all the latest drivers installed etc.

First add your system details to your profile. Please click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

Use SIW it gives more precise information than you have supplied. BTW your OS is 32bit not 64 (unless you have XP Pro instead of Home).

Once we've gathered that we'll know where to look for drivers.

I changed the sysdetails to 32 bit. The download you suggested, I already have. I guess I don't know how to use it.

That shouldn't have came from the link supplied,

I'd suggest you take a visit to malware removal and follow their instructions carefully.

Please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.

I get so tangled up trying to follow these instructions. When asked to do something, that I don't know about or don't know how to proceed with the instructions, my mind just rebel's. I just want to go to sleep.

I went to the first link. It opened up a whole page of things to buy, but I did not see what wild fire was leading me to.

So I went to "Read this" and read a lot of things I didnt fully understand and cannot remember.

I downloaded DDS to my Desk top.
Then I opened DDS and I got the instructions about Word Wrap, and Script Blocker.
I dont know where to look or how to proceed with that.
The Warning "NO SHORTCUTS" is there and I'm wondering if I'm taking shortcuts?

So now this "Log" appears and they say to ZIP it. How to Zip? I have no experience with that at all.
I saved the Log though. DDS.txt to the Desk top. The other file they wanted me to save went away as soon as I clicked OK so I could save it. I cant remember what it was called.
Maybe there's some instructions I can print out? It dont help me to print links though.

So, you can see I need help. But Dont know how to use the Help suggestions.

Take a deep breath and follow instructions step-by-step. It's pretty easy if you do it that way.

    Keep this open: http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-virus-removal/announcements.html

    And then just follow it.

Ignore Word Wrap and Script Blocker.

Since you already have the logs, you are now here:

    Next is:

Include the contents of both logs in your new topic. The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment. No need for that though ..... just post its contents as you would any other log.

So head over to the Malware and Virus Removal forum and start a new topic.
