    Hi Elaine

I thought I would drop in and pick up this thread!

OK now we have the problem pinpointed. It is the setup of her router!

No Elaine it is not plug up and run, the router settings on her end must match her laptop settings and those settings must match your router settings!

Take 5 while I compose a post to find these settings.

    We can fix this!

    Mike

OK Elaine in order to fix this I need info from both computers so do the below!

Do you know how to access the routers at both locations to make changes?

Do the below on your computer

Drag mouse to highlight the ipconfig line below then rt click and copy

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\elainecfg.txt

    Next

    Start-Run
    type
    cmd
click OK to open CMD prompt

Left click in CMD prompt and rt click and paste then hit enter.
    close cmd prompt.

There is now a elainecfg.txt file on desktop. Open copy the contents and paste back to this thread.

Now do the exact same on Niece (at your house) with the below line and paste back here also.

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\niececfg.txt

Then back to her house and hook up to router
and do the below (she will have to come back to your house for internet in order to post this back).

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\nieceroutercfg.txt

    Hi Elaine

You should probably bring the router and her laptop from her home to yours plug up in another room.

All the work we are doing will be on her computer I think!

The issue is with her computer communicating with her router. Her router appears to be communicating with your router.

Also make both computers be in same Workgroup.

In network connections "Local area connection" and Wireless Connection un-check Microsoft tcp/ip version 6 and reboot.

    OK good!

Now do this on both computers:
Also make both computers be in same Workgroup.

In network connections "Local area connection" and Wireless Connection un-check Microsoft tcp/ip version 6 and reboot.

We need to access the router it is a Lynksys right? get me the model.

After this hook Cindy's Computer to the Router with a cable (router should have come with cable and CD).

Then in Local area connection rt click the Wireless Local area connection and click disable. At this time all communication to Elaine will cease. This is what we want.

    Reboot!

Then rt click the Local area connection (not wireless) and click properties. Then in white box click the line that says Internet protocol tcp/ip and make sure it says Obtain IP address automaticlly same for DNS at bottom. If it is not set to obtain automatically set it to do so and reboot.

If it is not already set to Obtain then set it to obtain and reboot! Must reboot if you change.

Once it is set to obtain then do the below.

    start-run
    type
cmd click OK or hit Enter

    In Black commant prompt
    type
    ipconfig
    hit enter

Read the output, and on Elaines computer send me the reported IP and the Gateway IP number for Cindy's computer.

OK open a web browser and clear the address line and type the gateway number 192.168.1

    Hit enter

It will ask for a User type ADMIN hit enter then click the password and click ok. It should open a screen to the router that looks like the below link.

    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...er/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3686&lid=7775537401B02

The first thing we need to do is set the Local IP address to 172.16.0.2
    Then click save settings

Shutdown (not reboot) turn off router for 30 seconds, then turn router back on, then wait 10 more seconds and turn on computer.

Check the Internet to see if it comes up we may have a little more to do.

Do the below and send to me as before.

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\nieceroutercfg.txt

Sorry so long had phone calls and visitors!

    NO!

Bring up the link on your computer since you have Internet.

When she puts in the 192.168.1.1 this is the screen she should get!

This 192.168.1.1 is connecting to the router.

OK the results in post 31 are wrong.

To many ones in top and a number missing in the second.

I am assuming that they are

    192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.1

    Is that correct.

Additionally if she is showing a Hughes page she is connected to the Internet is that so? Try browsing now on hers to see if so.

    If so do nothing else.

    Let me know!

    Mike
