Its located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop and for its function, if you read my information in step #12 in my guide I have a list that talks about what each item does.

Evan Omo, read your detailed notes (12). In Regedit, WaitToKillAppTimeOut is set (default) as 20000. Is it set to high? your notes refer as 1. Thanks.

I have it set to 2000 as opposed to 20000 which is in milliseconds. So the default value is set to 20 seconds and I have the entry changed to just 2 seconds.

Evan Omo, I changed both WaitToKill as recommended and still shut down of computer takes 240 seconds. If you think this time is normal and no further assistance will reduce the time lapse, then I will certainly mark this topic as solved. Thank you, Bobby.

You can just use my registry script that I made in step #12 in my guide and let me know if your shutdown time improves.

Evan Omo, I undertook your instruction detailed in Registry step 12. It appears to be now included in my Computer's Registry. Can I read this entry by entering the Registry?

You can manually go into the registry and verify that the values were changed accordingly but other than that its not a place for regular users to go into and start changing settings.

Point taken, thanks. Checked, Opening start up, speed has improved and new captions showing. Shutdown, now showing captions too, but time lapse still in the region of 180 seconds. Thanks for your interest and help, appreciated.

Checked Registry entries for both WaitToKill values, both entries now showing again values of 2000.

Ok that's good to hear. If your computer is still running slow, you might want to go through all of the steps in my optimization guide to help improve the speed of your system or have your computer checked for any malware infections by broni.

I think this issue has been resolved though don't you agree?

The computer became so unstable with freezes, this forced me to undertake a Restore. Can you please tell me, if your Registry Script remains current and permanent? Start up now is fairly fast, but shut downs remains in the 270 seconds mark. I noted on Shutdown, that WaitToKill various values, 20000 - 2000 - 2 - 1 appeared to have no effect in shut down speed.

If you restored your computer to a previous point then you will need to run the registry script again as the registry values were reverted back to their default settings.
