With XP when I opened a folder of photos I could get to see the images but in Win 7 all I can see is icons so can't identify the photo until I click on the icon which is both laborious and frustrating.

Can someone please explain how I can open the folder with all images as taken.

    Thanking you

Look for the VIEW button and change the view to thumbnail. (xp has this same option)

I don't know what you see, but this is what you should see:

Yes I know buy all I see is..the logo of the software I am using to open the folder.
Windows Media Centre = Windows Logo for each picture not the actual picture itself.
If I choose to open with Windows photo viewer I get an island scene for everyone so I am unable to distinguish one photo from another.

This doesn't sound right to me. I'd suggest to re-install Windows 7 on top of itself (choose 'upgrade') if you have a Win7 DVD. This will repair Windows 7.

Also I suggest you add your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Thanks Arie I was thinking of going down that track as I am starting to have a number of minor irritable issues.

Win7 pre installed no CD but i did have a Home Premium on hand but regrettably it was an older version apparently so update irrelevant.
Will have to havashot with maybe Recovery Diskx3..would that be my next best option?

? You mean you want to use your recovery Disk? Yea, just backup your personal files, as a recovery will most likely wipe your system (I've never used recovery disks in my life - and I never will).

    Thanks Arie,
Am progressively working through the 3 issues I have recently posted
    1. Admin permissions
    2. links won't respond
    3. Photo icons not showing up
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I believe
    1. has sorted itself out.
    2. has been resolved and resolution outlined in my post
    3. also resolved
I have discovered the solution for this one [3] and this is the answer.
    Control/Tools/Folder Options/View/Advanced Settings/Files and Folders...Untick-Always show icons never thumbnails.

The default for this setting is not selected, so at one point you must have changed this default setting...
