If that is the case why does it NOT require admin rights when NOT in compatibility mode?

Do you have the navigation path to that registry key?

    1) I was responding to lj50's question.

    2) I understand what you want to do. According to what I've seen so far on the 'net, it looks like the only way I might be able to figure how to run it without admin rights would require access to a computer running Windows 7, a copy of the program, some debug/hacking tools and some free time.

Probably not worth the effort. I guess just mark this thread as Unresolvable.

What folder is the app installed in? If it's in the Program Files (x86) folder you might try installing it to a user friendly folder that you create like C:\Tycoon

It'd be interesting to know why you want this changed... If I were sitting there, I'd simply be happy that it worked on the newer OS.

It is in c:\Games\Trains and Trucks Tycoon

I agree it is mostly academic but don't like something running with admin rights that is not necessary. However, as I said if this is normal operation for something running in compatibility mode (which seems odd to begin with), it is not worth pursuing, at least in this case.

H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurremtVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers. In the right pane key SIGN.MEDIA=A930B SETUP.EXE REG_SZ value of WINXPSP3. The HKLM navigational path has in the right pane key C:\Users\Username\Downloads\sp41377.exe REG_SZ and a value of WINXPSP2 and another key SIGN.IE=0646798 sp54714.exe REG_SZ with a value of WINXPSP2. My MS Flight Simulator 2002 runs fine in compatibility mode without any prompting for a need to run with administrative rights. My first install failed I couldn't get it to run. I uninstalled and reinstalled FS 2002. The reinstall works fine. I even got my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joy Stick to install work, and even calibrated it. My apologies if you tried this already try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Thanks and yes I have uninstalled and reinstalled. As I said this is just not worth any more effort.
