Ok I want to turn off the touchpad tapping feature, but when I oper the device settings tab the device I see is Wheel Mouse on PS/2 port and not the Synatics Pointing Device. So when I opening the settings tab to turn off tapping the drop down is not there to select tapping. Does anyone know how I can get the synatics device to show as one of the devices in the the device box so I can change the tapping feature when I open the settings for the synaptics device.

    Thanks

Hey Mitch you are correct about the Fn + F7 turning off the touchpad, but I want to disable tapping feature for the pad, have it to use.

    Thanks

sorry. guess I should have read closer. Have you located and installed the latest drivers for the touchpad from the laptop's manufacturer's website?

Sure did that was the first thing iI thought of and it install sucessfully and was picked up in my hardware devices, but for some reason it did replace the device that was being used to control the touchpad. I even reinstalled it.

Sounds wrong somehow :):) That seems to be a "best fit" that Windows could find for the hardware.

As you seem to know yourself, Synaptics not only installs drivers, but management software as well.

A maybe, but have you installed any software (aka...driver "software ") for an external mouse? They might be clashing.

You say you "reinstalled" Synaptics, did you uninstall and reinstall?

You might have to uninstall any programs relating to the touchpad/mouse/
"human interface device" and then reinstall the Synaptics drivers (software).
[PS, don't be worried about uninstalling such software, you will still have touchpad or mouse capabilities]

    Matt

My dislike for touch-pads is such, I only use Bluetooth Laser Mouse.
Sorry, not very helpful for you I know.

At this point I have disabled the pad and using an external mouse. I don't know why I can see the pad in the device settings. Oh well
