Yeah. another one of these threads.

It all started months ago when I was doing "something" and some folder or such decided, after installation, to not delete. So I whipped out "The Avenger" which you may know of, and that was the end of whatever file that was.

But ironically the Avenger left its own folder on my disk at c:\. It wouldn't delete either, like it usually might. So I left that for a few months.

Recently it began to irritate me anew, so I again tried to destroy it with a different program, "Unlocker." Unlocker took a long time to think about it, and I figured it had failed to remove the "Avenger" folder when it reported success. I was astonished and thought about donating to the "Unlocker" developer. I emptied the recycle bin...but it still had something in it. A folder.

    Dc55. (or some other number)

So, when I tried to delete this folder, unlocker "helpfully" chimed in saying, "that isn't locked, but I can help!" It does in fact delete this "Dc55" folder. Then a fresh one appears in the recycle bin, with some registry hash for a name or something like that. I can move the folder with unlocker, too. I can't go back to my simple "Avenger" problem now, I have a fully fledged recycle bin "situation. "

I would be quite surprised if Malware were at the heart of the issue - I am very cautious with what web sites I visit with this computer, but that said I don't know what happened or how to fix it. Help!

Hi Hunter, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

See if this link will solve your problem, Registry Edits for Windows XP. (Line 64 on the right side)

If that link doesn't work try this, Can't empty the Recycle Bin in Windows XP or in Windows Vista.

If you suspect Malware is causing the problem then please read this and post a new thread in the Malware and Virus Removal Forum.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

A trick I have used when there is a file "stuck" in the recycle bin is to delete a throw away file such as a word document or other file that you don't need, then empty the recylce bin. Seems to allow the recylce bin to clear itself.

I would post in the Malware and Virus Removal Forum just to make sure your computer is not infected with any nasties.

I want to make sure that Malware is not causing the problem.
