IE 8 will not open for G Mail

I have windows7 and IE8. I had to sign out of my Gmail account. When I tried to sign back on my internet would not open. It keeps trying to open but will not complete the action.
I have gone into my options and cleared the temp files and cookies but it still does not work. My other programs work just fine.

 

For starters, adding your System Details would be helpful.


The first thing I would try is to open IE without addons Start menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Internet Explorer(No Add-Ons).

It it opens then start disabling addons (one at a time), close IE8, try opening it. when it opens, then you have found the addon that was causing the problem.

If that doesn't fix it, trying opening IE8 in Safe Mode [restart, keep tapping F8 until the menu comes up and select safe mode.

There are no add ons. I set up another browser (Firefox) to use the second G Mail but that is a pain.
