Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have an issue with my computer I built about 4 months ago with a friend.

    It's spec is-

    ASUS P5Q SE2 Motherboard
    intel Q8200 Processor
    Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM
    XP OS

After a month my computer developed a problem whereby it would just restart itself randomly, after speaking on various forums people suggested it was a problem with the RAM or RAM slots on the board.

So at the moment it runs a 2GB of RAM instead of 4.

I was going to send the board and RAM away in the summer to be checked. But i've recently found articles on the net linking Roxio Upnp Server 9 to problems.

My computer crashed about 25 minutes ago and I went into the event viewer when it booted back up and Roxio Upnp Server 9 and RoxLiveShare occured at that time.

I have donwloaded Hijack This and will post my log. Sorry about the long post.

Any help would be much appreciated as it's very frustrating any caused me to loose work if I havnt saved.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

HijackThis and similar logs are not permitted in the OS forums, only in the Malware & Virus Removal forum. If you choose to go there ......

Please read this as indicated at the head of the forum and post the logs requested in a new thread.

I see you have P2P software ( Limewire, BitTorrent, uTorrent etc… ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares and their infections.

References for the risk of these programs are here, and here.

I would strongly recommend that you uninstall them,

Note: Please be advised that continued use of these programs after being warned of the danger of infections from them, may result in the discontinued help of future cleaning of your system here at WindowsBBS Malware and Virus removal.

Your problem may well not be related to malware - I suggest you first set the Roxio Upnp Server 9 and RoxLiveShare services to manual or uninstall Media Manager - see here.

You should also check out your temps - I suggest the use of SIW - Hardware > Sensors and post the values here for comment.

Thanks for the reply PeteC. I have removed Blackberry software from my computer and my computer just crashed again.

    My temps are 32 25 36 41 degrees C. (Real Temp 3.40)

This is very annoying now and is occurring 3-4 times a day. I hope I can sort it with peoples help.

Have you done this? I don't see the connection with Blackberry

Your temps look fine even though you have not specified which is which.

When the computer crashes do you see a blue screen (BSOD)? The default for XP is to restart on System failure .....

Set up the computer so that it does not automatically restart on system failure .....

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings ....

Under System failure uncheck 'Automatically restart' and under Write debugging information select 'Kernel memory dump' from the dropdown list and OK out.

The computer will now show the BSOD in the event of a System failure giving details of the Stop message and the contents of the memory will be dumped to disk.

Run the dump data through our Dump Data Collection Tool and post the log here (copy/paste).

Unfortunately these logs require expert knowledge to analyze and there are currently no members that have the depth of knowledge necessary. Members can only make observations and suggestions as to how you might proceed toward finding the cause .....

You might also test out your RAM, noting .....
The only satisfactory way of testing RAM is to test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules run each one singly, swapping between slots; then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.

I googled Roxio and found it linked to Blackberry and put 2 and 2 together. So I removed all my Blackberry software for my phone that has been installed for a few months.

    But its happened since then.

Real Temp doesn't give a description of the cores, just numbers them like i've done from left to right.

I'll setup the computer like you've suggested and lie in wait for it to try and ruin my dau again....... (MUAHAHAHAH) ; )

Also with my RAM, i have previously changed the sticks around and ran it with 1 then swapped, and swapped slots etc. With no luck.

Just a question, if i run the RAm in the slots that its not mean to, such as B1 and B2 instead of A1 and A2, will that cause any problems?

You should run the RAM in the slots indicated in the motherboard manual - one set of slots should be filled first.

Check in Services to see if the two items I mentioned are present.

SIW will give you more detail re. temps and voltages, screenshot ....

That's not enough to go on - it points to a driver problem.

As you now have the computer setup not to restart on System Failure you will also have a Dump Data File (*.dmp)

Run the dump file through our Dump Data Collection tool and post the dump data log here (copy/paste).

Alternatively run the dump through BlueScreenView and post the file names shown in pink - also look at the blue screen - the troublesome file should be shown at the bottom of the screen.
