Jan I got the same thing yesterday and emptied the bin before I realized what I had done! Anyway nothing dramatic happened and windows is still where it should be. But like you I'd be interested to know why it happened in the first place.

    Windows in recycle bin JanRoberts

Jan Ive been trying to reply to your post "dds..... ", but for some reason I can't.
I responded to your original thread on this as exactly the same thing happened to me at the same time as you.
I've been trawling through the internet and it seems this is a fairly common problem.
I agree it's worrying when you see it, but then logically it's pretty unlikely that you can even deliberately try to bin Windows.
I havent found any definitive answer as to why it happens, but the one I find most attractive is that your system can't categorize all the files for deletion in the bin so it just gives a generalized title e.g. Windows.
Another suggestion is this this happens when you have tried to delete an active or open file.
There is some discussion of this, and some suggestions at:
    http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-xp-support/185913-windows-recycle-bin.html
For my part, I'd follow the steps you have been given in this forum, I just post this to let you know it's not, apparently as critical as it looks.

It became a bit of a mess. I doubt Malware is involved at this point, so moving this to the XP forum for now.

First, run chkdsk /f on the disk, that usually fixes it.

I not, run rd /s c:\recycler from a command prompt & reboot your computer.

Also, you really need to enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Running chkdsk without any switch doesn't do anything. It just analyzes. You'll want to run with /f to repair.
