For Peter, Broni and Deester. I am having a similar problem. Computer boots fine but monitor continually switches to black and power saving mode then back on again, etc. A recent happening (just a few days old). In safe mode, same thing. Even went to last good config and still happened. Put the monitor in another system and it worked fine. Now I think it's in Windows somewhere but it's not obvious. Checked all Display settings -- it's a plug and play new LG Flatron monitor. Any clues or hints to where to go next to solve this. I will do a system restore in safe mode to the day before it started and see if anything changes.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the monitor - looks like a hardware problem, maybe an overheating/failing graphics card/chip. If that is the case a System Restore will not affect the issue.

Couple of suggestions - remove and reseat the graphics card

Uninstall & re-install the drivers for the card.

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)

Would at least know a little about your graphics card if you did so.

Reinstalled card and driver. Symptons remain the same. Put another LCD monitor (several year old Samsung) to the computer and it works fine. Could it be the LG monitor, although relatively new.

The anomaly in this problem is that the LG monitor worked fine in my laptop.
This led me to try and find whether there was anything available from LG that could help - nothing - it's normal plug n play. Settings for the monitor are all standard when I checked them on the computer. There aren't many places I could find where settings are available.

The LG monitor has worked fine since February until 3 days ago when this problem happened.

Computer is a Dell Dimension 8400, pent 4, 3 gig ram, 300 gig HD, 128 mb pci express ATI radeon x300 se graphics card.

    I am stumped.

That's not good as it indicates the new LG does not play well with the computer. Still it could be a setting where some event is telling it to wake up, or some other connected device. I would disconnect all unneeded devices - especially USB devices and see what happens.

We still don't know what OS you are using but you might want to step through this: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Sorry I forgot to add that the OS is XP Pro SP3.
I did go to power options and made sure it was always On, to see if any other setting had caused it. Didn't help. Will do the elimination of all other devices and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.
