    Using:
    COMODO Firewall + Internet Security
    Avast Free Antivirus
    Spyware Blaster
    Spybot
    Malwarebytes

Recently, firefox began not loading pages at all, or just hanging somewhere in the page load process. It would be at transferring, communicating with, etc. Various points in the process with all websites. I have tried IE & it has the same symptoms. I've also tried tweaking settings like mentioned in the FF forum & other places. No joy.

I began to think I had a virus that the programs were not catching somehow. I had to do a repair disc as we were locked out of the admin account through a changed & forgotten password.

So, I am now running with all Windows updates - Windows XP Pro SP3
    HP 5750 - HP 5850 / AMD Sempron LE-1250 2.19 GHZ w/ 1.75 GB RAM
    All scans show clean.

I have allowed firefox.exe in Comodo. Beyond that I am uncertain where to go.... please help. i could fall asleep in the time it will take for a thread to load! I should also mention I tried & am now using OpenDNS. This has not improved the problem.

afterthoughts: i know FF add ons can cause slowness so, i have also tried FF with no additions. Same symptoms.

Please update your system details as this will help others help you.

First your should eliminate your ISP as the culprit. Run a speed test here and post the result.

    other than this:
All I can add is connecting to RoadRunner Cable through a netgear WGR614v7 with a Netgear G54 wireless USB adapter. This is a K12 PC so, I cannot open it up. Admin support with them through a microphone issue due to their incorrect set up was a nightmare. So, I am trying to avoid that again.

    Speed Test:
Perfect example of the problem page showed done after 5 seconds with no display. Hit reload & it hung on waiting for speed test.net for around 1.5 minutes. Then about 3 minutes on testing latency. Returned:
    Ping:34ms
    Download: 0.75 Mbps
hung for at least 5 minutes when i walked away. an hour later now it shows,
    Upload:.01 Mbps

I should add that the computer is fast. Whatever this is only affects the internet.
If you can point me to a tutorial to look up the other hardware specs without opening the case i'll be glad to add that info.

i have 30 TCP outs from avastsvc.exe. is this normal?
i also show 3 UDP outs on the netgear router. I have only had experience with zone alarm before & never watched or knew how the outbounds look. so, could all this be a problem or normal?

i am noticing now tonight around the same time as last night the connections are back to as quick as they have always been. pages load in seconds. so, during the day until around right now the their is something happening. I should also add that tonight i have been getting messages that the connection to the server has been reset & failure to connect to the internet.

Mitch did do exactly that, so I'd suggest you follow the link he posted.

One thing I noticed in your first post was you are runnind Comodo Firewall + Internet Security AND Avast Antivirus. It is my understanding your Comodo package comes with an antivirus program. You should not have two active antivirus programs running at the same time.

If I get this right, during day time your connection is slow but at night it is ok? Have you tried connecting directly to the Internet (bypassing the router)?

Have you contacted your ISP (I know talking to roadrunner support is a pain) to see if there is a problem they are aware of?

I am assuming K12 is a company which owns this computer?

You have all the information for your system details. Just follow the link here and input the information.

Thanks Arie, sorry I walked on you.

Are you still having the problem?

Is this the only computer in the home? If not, are/is the other computer having the same problem?

I am, I was not able to get on here last night. I am getting ready to go through the link you provided earlier.

There was another computer for a week. History of that is in the Vista forums. I gave up on that thing. The slowness of that was due to other problems I believe.

I connect online through the Wii. It was not able to watch netflix last weekend. I used youtube to practice bass saturday & it was ok. not as fast as normal but not as bad as this has been. Have not checked Netflix since last weekend.

Not everyone thinks of the easiest fix first. That is why we are here -- as a sounding board and helper. Please let us know what you internet provider finds out. It may/will help others who may have similar problems and read this thread.

And, of course, let us know you are now back to normal browsing speed.

    FYI MitchellCooley,

While the full COMODO CIS system does include an AV, he mentions up front that he is running the COMODO Firewall.

I do the same along with the Avast free AV. It is an option of the COMODO CIS to install just the firewall.

that is correct. i did attempt to use comodo av but three attempts at the comodo av failed. so, i went to avast.

internet is back to running full speed. not sure what they did as the tech showed up two hours early. asked my wife some questions that even she knew were coming from someone who was not adequate for the job. then left saying she added a component to the computer downstairs which..... is not even hooked up to power much less the internet. i have not had time to inspect her work to see what she may have been talking about. the tech did say they were getting the same weird signals out at the pole (about 50yards from the house at the street). as of now though the tech support reset still seems to be working (whatever he did online over the phone). if it comes back i will schedule a tech to come on saturday while i am home next time.

    thanks again all.
