    Hi everyone

I am very new to this forum (posting wise) but have come here often to find answers to my problems.

My computer started to stutter a while back and I couldnt find an way to get it to stop, so I just went an bought a new Harddrive. Well it seems that the stuttering is back.

The computer stutters only when im Online, but then only when there is a video or an MP3 playing. It also started to stutter as soon as I start up my mmorpg. At first I thought it was my Videocard or Soundcard Driver causing the problems but even after I updated the drivers the stuttering continues. I went through all the steps in the following thread (in the first post of mflynn, except the BHO Demon thing):

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-95-98-me-nt/14141-my-computer-stutters-4.html

The thread has been closed for sometime I believe. Well after doing all of those steps the computer still stutters, so i am thinking it might be because I havent cleaned my registry yet (dont have a program for that). I dont think I have a virus since I always run my virus program once a week and once a month in safe mode. The only thing ever found is Tracking Cookies.

I dont want to have to format my harddrive or throw my comp out the window so I would appreciate it if someone could help me.

    Thanks in advance

    Damien

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)

Without your specs we are working in the dark :)
Don't - registry cleaners can do more harm than good, especially the less reputable ones. It is unlikely that your problem is caused by registry errors, more likely down to a lack or resources.

So fill in your spec and we'll take it from there.

That's fine - your specs are more than adequate, but I would check out the power requirements of your system - 370W may be a little on the low side. Try eXtreme Power Supply Calculator to get a ball park figure.

Is you hard drive running in DMA mode as opposed to PIO mode?

The hard drive is running in DMA mode.

*edit* used the power suppls calculator and came out with approx. 236 W used.

As the stuttering you describe happens only when you are online and streaming suggests a possible problem with your connection - what is your nominal connection speed? Test actual with http://www.speedtest.net/

So I checked everything, and there is nothing malicious running on my comp.

I thought about what PeteC* said about how there could be a problem with the connection. I waited for the problem to happen again (didnt take long, lol), and my WLAN USB stick was shutting off and on again. I went to the router, to see if it was also shutting off, but that was not the case. So I closed my browser and pulled the stick, and the stuttering stopped instantly, with the stick connected I always have to reboot. So I just laid a LAN cable to my router, and going to wait to see if the stuttering returns.

    Wish me luck....

Are you a Malware Expert? Just running some software may not tell you the whole story. Your choice though...

You do have a couple of bad programs installed that could be causing your problems. After the malware experts have you cleaned up try using your WLAN USB stick again and report back here.

The malware experts say my system is perfectly clean. I plugged the WLAN USB stick back in and the computer almost instantaneously started stuttering again. I figured that after all the scans that it cant be the computer, I googled for the USB Stick (few minutes ago) and found that there are others having the same problem. The USB Stick is from AVM (German Company) and is called the Fritz!WLAN USB Stick and works with all AVM's Fritz!Boxes. The patches that AVM put out doesn't fix the problem. I am sending the WLAN USB Stick back to AVM in the morning

Thank you so much for all the help and the quick answers, I appreciate it.
