    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 00000000, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: af78c42c, Trap Frame
    Arg4: 00000000

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 00003ce9, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000001, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: 804f05b0, address which referenced memory

Hi and welcome to the BBS,
The dumps reference different programs (drivers) each time. Some are solely Microsoft drivers. If this has only started happening recently, try using System Restore.

Run through the basics, disk cleanup, right-click on the drives in My Computer and run Error Checking (including a surface test), run a defragmentation.

Go into the BIOS settings at startup, check the temperatures and voltages (Everest in my signature should be able to give you a readout). Has the case been cleaned of dust? You need to clean dust out on a regular basis.

If your system drivers are a few years old, find if updated ones are available. The major ones are Chipset, Graphics and Audio, so first stop is the computer (motherboard) manufacturer's website [if you see a BIOS upgrade, leave that until after you have tried all the suggestions].

Still no luck, run the memory diagnostics in my signature.

If you have Windows Updates set to automatically install drivers, turn it off. Find the correct drivers yourself. Everest may help you identify hardware (and even has links to the manufacturer's websites), but it is best to know exactly what model of hardware you have and know where the drivers are located at the manufacturer's website.

    Matt

Three dedbug reports are crashed with different syptoms. Especially the third debug reports is crashed at IRQL x'1c' and this is indication of hardware error. Probably the ram is bad or L2 cache memory of CPU is bad. Run memtest is stress test the ram.

That was entirly correct abou the hardware failure. When the last one happened the system went to Bad Bios checksum. It just so happens that the crash free Bios CRASHED! and I happened to pull the flash rom from my old mobo (which was the same one) and the problem (Bad Checksum) went away.

I have read many posts about the particular drivers it calls out. And many were intresesting and I thought that one of the couple things could have been it. However I stresstested the memory with memtest86 and had zero errors. I know the case isn't dirty I was just in it. But I am now wondering if it was a virus in the flash rom. This is day 2 and havent had a crash. Anyways. I am curious about one thing. The Asus video card I have is a 0db version which means it has no fan. It has a rather large heat sink on it but that is it. I was wondering if I should order a fan for it to mount on the heat sink. I check the temp levels and its generally running between 77c - 89 after gaming which is still in the Green monitoring area. the Cpu is at 53c and doesnt flucuate much at all the cooling is great on it. and the mem temp is at 43c. I know cooling wouldn't hurt anything but I am curious about the vid card for the most part. It is HOT. But the tem monitor says that it is acceptable.

This is the hardware error. According to my record (confirmed cases of IRQL x'1c' with root causes), there have 28 confirmed cases for your reference.

    12 - Ram
    6 - CPU
    3 - Motherboard
    2 - Power Supply
    2 - Software
    1 - Video Card
    1 - Overheat
    1 - Printer

Over 40% of the failure is related to RAM. However there have no reliable tool to test the ram. Some faulty ram can pass memtest. The hardware problem maybe related to L2 cache memory of the CPU or motherbord.

The following cases are confirmed case of systen crash at IRQL x'1c'

The following problem are also crashed at IRQL x'1c' but the author does not feed back the root cause. You can contact them to get more information.

I might see the temperatures you have quoted as "on the high side "...and you stress "hot ".

Fan-less is very quiet  , but the heat still needs to be removed. I think that the manufacturers expect you to have a hurricane blowing through your case. It doesn't really matter how large the heatsink is, if the air circulating past it is not changed rapidly, it will "stew in it's own juice ". If you don't have a fan on the GPU, you will need to use system fans to remove the heated air (purpose defeated?).

    My suggestion:
Get a PCI slot fan and put it next to the graphics card. A PCI slot fan exhausts the heated air out the back of the case, and so, doesn't leave the heated air to circulate around to act as "cooling" for the CPU and other processors.

If you remove the heated air from around the GPU, I think the CPU and the rest of the system will run cooler.

    Matt

I actually picked one of those fans up yesterday along with a case fan dropped my gpu temp to 50 c and 60c under a load overall ambient temps in the case have dropped 15 degrees which was very much needed. Well still havent had a BSOD since I replaced the flash rom on the mobo, so far so good. I read the threads that were posted about the win32k file and I do see the common denominator. However I havent seen any errors as of yet. All the sytem checks out fine. I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks for all the help. This is a very useful website and for that I all very greatful. Thank you all very much.
