My first one was a BSR 386, with Windows 3.1, and 2 megs of RAM (more than you'll ever need, a friend advised). Adding RAM cost $50 per meg in those days.

Radio Schack Tandy 1000 back in 1985 - and at the time I believed I had the latest that technology could offer...

I dont know the brand but I got it in 1996. I was in the Navy and just got back from a Cruise to the Mediterranean, so had saved up lots of Cash.
I went to CompUSA and got a CPU Tower, Monitor, HP Laser Jet 5XL all for $3,000
The checkout girl asked... Will this be Check or Credit Card? and I said "CASH" and threw down Three-Grand. Then she said... Wait here, I have to get a manager.
It was Top of the Line running Windows 95 with a 1.3 GB Hard Drive.

My first job involved programming a TRS-80 model II (8 inch floppies guys :D).

It was for a sign engravers and I was responsible for setting the instructions for the robotic arm when new orders came in. A little like CAD/CAM but using Tandy BASIC :)

My first computer was a Commodore 64, back in 1986. My dad bought it for me as a reward for doing well in class. He also bought me a couple of games..that number increased drastically soon afterward. Fond memories...

    Last Ninja 2 FTW! :D

    First computers

Dragon 32, then Spectrum followed by QL (I liked that one) with the tiny disk/tape casettes, I forget what they were called. Then quantum leap to Amstrad 640, first proper PC after which I started building my own except for the elderly Dell Latitude and Presario 2100 laptops for backup and problem solving.
In the early days I often used to buy computer related bits at car boot sales so also used a zx80(made out of recycled yoghurt pots) zx81s, Commodore 64 and a humungous dot matrix printer like an upright piano and a file cabinet sized disk drive unit.

    Those were the days!! (not)

My first computer was a Compaq 50-50, Celeron 333, Windows 98. Upgraded RAM and HDs. It's been runing Debian Linux (Woody) since 2000. I use it as a local server for my business database w/ a Web application I built. It has no keyboard, mouse or monitor attached.

I've not rebooted that computer for about 4+ years and it's running strong. It has rebooted automatically several times as a result of power white outs and/or blackouts. But I have not manually rebooted it.

It cost $1500 US in 1998!

First computer(s) I used/sold: Radio Shack Color Computer (the original, with 4K Memory and the "Chicklets" keyboard) and the Commodore Vic 20 (remember the dancing man program?).

First computer(s) I owned: Radio Shack Model III and Tandy 102 (portable, would run on an adapter or "AA" batteries, and a 4 line by 25 character screen!). I think I still have the 102 somewhere...

I also sold a ton of Tandy 1000's... but that was several lifetimes ago. :)

The first PC I owned was the Tandy Sensation! (and yes, I still have it!) with it's blazing 25Mhz processor and Windows 3.1 OS.
