Broni, The hard drive on the system is Western Digital (WDC800JD-) I searched the data base by entering the product number and the site directed me to multiple downloads for that specific device. I downloaded the Diagnostic Program to a CD, changed the boot sequence to load USB/CD first and let it go. The boot program got further this time (just past the 'welcome' screen) then went into the reboot cycle. I attempted the Recovery Console on the 3rd iteration of the reboot loop and it froze once again, as in the past, on the request to enter the value of "1" for the Windows installation.

No I believe it was another version (for Windows circa 2007)... my fault, I will burn the download to CD that you have identified and re-attempt tomorrow morning. I will also confirm that the boot sequence is enabled with 'boot from USB or CD' as the number one selection. Sorry for the misunderstanding....ckl

I downloaded the program you indicated and burned it to disk. I configured the subject computer to load from CD, loaded the Western Digital program CD and initialized the system. I confirmed that the CD Drive light responded as the system was booting up. I selected the Recovery Console at the appropriate time and the system once again experienced a blip at one point in the process. (I accessed the program on a fully functional computer and did not see the 'blip' or momentary power loss). When the final page appeared asking me to make my installation selection the cursor was stationary and I was once again locked out of the system.

While waiting I shut the system down and opened the tower, cleaned all the heat sinks, fans and components from dust and dirt thinking it might be a heat problem and just trying to eliminate possibilities. I fired up the system again and it responds the same as before.

Well, at this point I suggest you start new topic in either Windows, or hardware forum since we're not dealing with an infection, at least for now.
    You'll get more attention.
In here it's just you and me.

Broni... I was informed that the system couldn't stop or impede the recovery/repair disk from Western Digital and that I perhaps didn't burn either the correct program or the disk wasn't right somehow. I am going to attempt a reburn and see what gives.(FYI)
