    Hi,

My Dell E510 desktop with XP sp3 installed gets out of my control. The hard drive light remains on continuously and the computer does not respond to my inputs. Occasionally it will release control to the launched program for a very short period of time. This may last up to a half hour.

The Task Manager indicates CPU usage ranging between 1% and 20% during this period. Listed processes appear to be utilizing the CPU for short periods of time.

HiJackThis lists 5 programs and 14 processes asrunning.

I have launched a scan from Windows Security Essentials and the response was that viruses did not exist.

I do not have the problem when the computer is booted in the safe mode.
