Well my machine is crashing at random intervals with different causes I think, because it sometimes shows sysaudio.sys, sometimes by avgmfx86.sys or win32k.sys and others.. generally it's an 8E STOP error. And I have ran Memtest and no errors shown and I have been having this problem for a long time now and it's really freaking me out. Please help.. here is the latest dump file:

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 80552669, The address that the exception occurred at

Hi, Tcm9669. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)
Perhaps memtest will show an error if you let it run while you sleep. It might not pick up any errors on the first pass.

Perhaps Windows Memory Diagnostic will pick up errors that Memtest misses.

Since RAM testers are reportedly not perfect, perhaps manually testing your RAM as follows will help identify a faulty RAM module or slot.

    1. Remove some of the memory modules from the computer (while the computer is off, of course).
      • For example, if two RAM modules are installed in your computer, remove one of the RAM modules.
    2. Start your computer and see if the problem goes away.
    3. If you continue to have unexpected crashes, then replace that RAM module with another module, or install the module in a different memory slot.
    4. Start your computer and see if the problem goes away.
Continue this process to see if you can pinpoint the cause of your problem to a specific RAM module or slot.

This may be time-consuming since your crashes are apparently "random ". You may have to test each RAM stick/slot for several days at a time to see if the crash problem disappears.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 80592ac4, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: b9cf4920, Trap Frame
    Arg4: 00000000

Can you recall which month or even the day your crashes first started?

Perhaps we can narrow down the issue to a hardware or software change you made to your computer immediately prior to that time.

Last night I did some searching regarding your issue but I didn't find anything that I recognized as a likely solution given the information we had so far about your issue. :(

    avwebcam.sys (?)

    Tcm9669,

I sorted your module list below, descending by year, in case that might be helpful for identifying a possible problematic driver (if you can recall when your crashes began occurring). However, I couldn't easily figure out how to do a secondary sort by month in Office Excel. :(

Many of the listed modules (including NDIS.sys, win32k.sys, and ntkrnlmp.exe) are Windows Protected System Files so I doubt they are the cause. However, the avwebcam.sys driver seems strange since it has no date info. That might be a lead for investigation.

I Googled avwebcam.sys and got only six results. One of the results is your ongoing forum thread at d-a-l.com about this issue. :)

The lack of date information for fdc.sys (which is also a protected file) may be common for dump logs. The fdc.sys date information is "unavailable" for one of my own recent BSOD crash dumps anyway.

    Possible Troubleshooting Course of Action:

    1. Click Start > Run...
    2. Type [FONT= "Fixedsys"]services.msc[/FONT] in the "Open:" field.
    3. Click the OK button.
    4. Scroll to the AV WebCam, WDM Video Capture service(s).
    5. Double-click on the service(s)
    6. In the "Service status" section, click the "Stop" button.
    7. Then set the "Startup type:" to "Disabled ".
    8. Click the "Apply" button and then OK your way back out.

That BANTExt.sys driver is dated long before Windows XP was even released. Makes me wonder if that somehow might be entering into the equation.

What properties information can you provide us about your BANTExt.sys driver? (What company, version, hash values, etc.?) FileAlyzer is handy for gathering/pasting much of this info. Company name (if available) will need to be determined by right-clicking on the filename in Windows Explorer and selecting "Properties ".)

JoeHobart is a dump analysis expert who used to post here. Here's an old thread link to his opinion (at that time) regarding that driver.

From Post #6 of That Old Thread:
If you ever decide to troubleshoot with that idea, I suggest you rename the driver instead of deleting it (just in case you need to reverse your troubleshooting).

EDIT: BTW, that BANTExt.sys driver (same date/minutes/seconds) is also in one of my own recent BSOD dump logs. I don't have BSODs often though. Therefore, we might be barking up the wrong three with that idea.

Heh, my BANTExt.sys is apparently a Belarc Advisor driver. :) I think that's unlikely to cause your issue (though I suppose it is possible).

    Code:
    Karen's Hasher v2.3
    http://www.karenware.com

    File Name MD5 Hash
    C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\BANTExt.sys	5D7BE7B19E827125E016325334E58FF1
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\BANTExt.sys 5D7BE7B19E827125E016325334E58FF1

I can't establish the exact date but all I know is that I did not make any hardware changes, this has been going on for some months now, and after this crashing started I formatted and re-installed a fresh copy of Windows XP, but no luck. I even tried installing it on a Virtaul Pc and during installation of XP it crashed and crashed (on the Virtual PC) I had to install it 5 times because it always crashed on the Virtual PC.

Well avwebcam.sys seems fine because the md5 matches exactly. And I THINK that is the webcam driver, not sure. I will try to disable it as soon as I post this.

Well I asked my Computer Science teacher about files older then the release date of XP, he told me that it is absolutely normal because theme might even come from older windows like Windows 95, and the file was never modified. And then that is it, because I too have Belarc Advisor installed. so it's solved too.

    Thanks for your help.

    You're welcome. I'm learning too. :)

If you search for avwebcam.sys, then what path(s) do you come up with besides C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\avwebcam.sys?

    I'll put in 2c worth.

It is crashing on Windows system files and not even the same ones each time.

I would start looking at hardware.

    RAM has been checked.
Look in the BIOS settings at startup, there should be temperature readouts.
    Do a power calculation here:
    http://www.journeysystems.com/?powercalc
Pull out and reseat all the connectors for the drives (system powered off, just a previso for beginners).
Right-click on your drives in My Computer -> Tools and run Error Checking. Afterwards, run a defragmentation. Explorer and AVGcc.exe were identified in the dumps, both concentrate on the file system -> mmm, there might be an error in the partitioning information of the drive, if you happen to want to reinstall again, delete the partition and remake it.

After the Windows reinstall, did you install all the drivers from the drivers CD and check for updated versions (considering it may be an older computer)?

    Matt

Temperature is good CPU temp is 48 and case is 45.

Power calculation, I select Intel but then I don't know what CPU to select, and what is the aim of this?

Reset all connections.. you mean unplug them from USB? I have unplugged them but the PC still crashed.

Error checking done sometime ago, but I'm redoing it.. scheduled on the next startup

Defregmentation done a few weeks ago, no need to do it again.

As I already told you I reinstalled Windows several times, still the same problem, And about the driver updating, there is no need I think, because with the same drivers and hardware it didn't crash the first year that I bought it (it's a 2 year old computer) but then once it started making these BSODs!!! So the drivers are fine because windows didnt crash..once... but still I have the drivers updated just for a precaution and I have the latest updated of XP too.

    Thanks all for your help.

While I think of it, is the Windows CD clean and free of scratches?
Temps seem pretty good, although I would check for and clean out any dust buildup in the case.

The purpose of the power calculator is to check that the power supply is not being overloaded. System Information is in All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools. You will need to compare the calculation to information on the label of the power supply.

The connectors I mean are the data cables from the motherboard to the hard disk drive/s and CD/DVD drives. They should be pulled out at both ends and reseated. There will be power cables to the drives, these should be reseated as well. It is not hard if you are careful, if you are not sure, you may need someone who has done it before to help you.

Some drivers may have been updated to keep pace with Windows Updates. The major chipset manufacturers have all released newer versions of their chipset drivers. Get updated drivers from the hardware manufacturer, not from the Windows Update website or by letting Device Manager "search on the internet ". Everest in my signature might help you identify hardware and their manufacturer.

If you are having trouble even installing Windows, there will be basic things (hardware) not working correctly.

Windows CD is fine, no scratches at all. I cleaned the inner of the PC a few weeks ago and I keep the PC always clean. I will try the power thing and let you know, and the Device Manager when I select to search the internet it just asks for the CD.. It's weired so I updated them manually. And well it just crashes sometimes when installing windows on a Virtual PC (the Pc does not crash, the virtual Pc does), not on the actual PC.

Check those things out. It sounds like you have covered most already.

If you end up reinstalling again, don't forget what I said about remaking the partitions. I had a problem just the other day where I thought the HDD was a goner, I remade the partitions and it is working like new.
Install Windows, install the drivers and updates, etc, then try a few things that you could be pretty sure will cause a crash. Test it in between installing each new program.
Edit: if you happen to have Norton Ghost and enough space to hold an image (preferable on another HDD), try saving an image, remaking the partitions, then reinstalling the image).

By remaking the partitions you mean to delete all partitions and start a new one.. because that is what I did on my last 3 formats, but the problem still persisted.

And it is definitely not a power problem because if it was, when installing XP on a Virtual PC, the whole Pc would have crashed, not the Virtual PC only.
