    Dear WindowsBBS Support,

We need help with our laptop, I was suggested by the malware part of this forum to move the discussion here to help solve this problem that has came up.

We have the virus Worm.win32.netsky, and possibly several other trojans ontop of that. While we were in the process of trying to remove the trojans and diagnose it, the antivirus finally detected part of it, and removed enough to where the system was stable enough for us to kill the rest of the Virus's processes. We promptly rebooted the system, and it loaded like normal.

However, when we got to the XP logon screen (we are using the Windowed login, not the basic login), we entered the password and tried to log in. Immediately upon logging in, it logs you right back out. It doesn't even show the taskbar or icons, just changes the desktop background and then it immediately says "Logging out and saving settings ". There is only one administrator account on this computer. I googled the issue and found there was a back door "administrator" account, with no password. The virus has overrode this account and it will not accept it.

The computer will not boot into safe mode, due to the virus has corrupted the mode and when it is chosen it loads a bunch of DOS commands, attempts to load a Blue screen saying "We're sorry but Windows failed to start" but it immediately restarts. (Does this in less than 3 seconds, I have no idea what any of those messages say). We cannot get it to boot from the recovery disk due to it requires you to be logged on to use it.

Any help will be appreciated. Here is a link to the other part of the discussion:

    G'Day "88fordwayne "

Please post or PM me with the Full specifications of the HP Laptop, I need Model and Serial number please.

When you say you are attempting a recovery, are you attempting to use the recovery partition or do you have a recovery CD or DVD which you are attempting to load?

My apologizes, we simply fixed this problem by wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition. However, it was suggested to us to use a Ubuntu Live CD disk to back up files to an external hard drive, and it did an excellent job.. I would suggest that to anyone who is locked out of their machine due to problems with the operating system.
