Erich - my goof. The example I gave was missing a little piece - no colon after the drive letter you want to use.

Do a net view to make sure of what resources you have availabe. Then net use by itself to make sure what drive letter(s) are already in use. Then

    net use x: \\computer3\share3
(where x: is free/unused and share3 is the name of the share - not the folder name unless it is the same as the share name)

If you can't make a connection with the "net use" command there is a problem with the way you have TCP/IP set up.

hi Newt, thanks for your reply. I not tried the whole net use precedure again, with following results:

net view: all 3 machines are properly listet.

net use: quote New connection are being saved. There are no entries in the list unquote

    net use x: \\computer3\....
quote System error 121 - the time limit for the semaphore was reached unquote

    net use x: \\computer2\.....
quote System error 53 - the network path was not found unquote

The report for computer 2 is interesting insofar, as with that one I have no problem to get access to the shares on it.

The report for computer 3 again cites this "semaphore" thing, whatever this is at all ! Would be interesting what System error 121 means in detail.

    So, which conclusions ?
    Best regards, Erich

Erich - this one is certainly giving the old brain a workout. Thanks - I need that from time to time.

The Error 121 - time limit for the semaphore was reached is a Terminal Server error. Interesting. Are you running TermServ service on the XP system?

As for the other one on computer2, it almost make me suspect you are getting network connectivity with some protcol other than TCP/IP. What else are you running?

hi Newt ! Sorry for all this trouble I am causing :)

The "Semaphore - timelimit reached" thing also shows up when I try to connect to computer3 from the windows explorer under Network Neighborhood. I am no aware though at all that I am running a TermServ service on the XP machine. Even if I did, why would it not cause a problem for computer 2, but only for computer3?

What concerns your suspicion that I get connectivity with anything other than TCP/IP - what I have installed is TCP/IP only.

All that is really strange, isn't it?
Well, I guess I'll get used to the situation that I simply can't share files on computer3 from the XP machine. What other choice do I have ?
