to anybody reading this thread: don't do what I did and try to reinstall Firefox on your own without saving your passwords/bookmarks in a file on your desktop, or at least writing down your recovery code for Firefox Sync (it was my first time using Sync, and I thought my password would be enough). Stupid!!!! It's all unrecoverable now.

Not a crisis, but irritating.
