    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to stop wordpad from double spacing when I don't want it to and how to fix it after it has already done it for you.
Example: I have this on an email. It isn't double spaced after Sun Aries in the email but comes out double spaced when I copy and paste it on wordpad like this:

    Planet Exultation

    Sun Aries

    Moon Taurus

    Mercury Virgo

    Venus Pisces

    Mars Capricorn

    Ceres Aries

    Pallas Aquarius

    Juno Sagittarius

    Vesta Gemini

    Jupiter Cancer

    Saturn Libra

    Uranus Scorpio

    Neptune Leo

    Pluto Sagittarius

    Chiron Gemini

    Pholus Aries

    Nessus Aquarius

    Vulcan Aquarius

    Gaia Aries

Why does it do this? And I can't fix it either. The cursor won't go between the lines. I've tried ctrl 1 as some have suggested but this doesn't do anything to what has already been double-spaced.

In Wordpad (not Word), first select the entire list you want to adjust. Then at the top of the window click on the word "Home" to display that menu bar.

On the top row of that bar, in the section labeled "Paragraph," hover the cursor over each icon until you find the one for "Line spacing. "

Click on that icon and in the list that opens, click on the spacing you prefer.

That will adjust the spacing on everything that you selected.

There is no 'Home' at the top of the window. If I click on 'Format' 'paragraph' does come up but it only has options for indentation and alignment. All of those read 0" anyway, so I don't think there's a solution there.

Are you using Notepad, Wordpad, Word or word processing software that is not from Microsoft, like Open Office? They are all different in how things are done and Word has a lot more features than either Notepad or Wordpad.

That sounds like neither WordPad nor Notepad...

Would you please go to UserCP and fill in your System Details and scroll to the bottom of the page to Save before you close out. This helps others to help you with your problems. Thanks.

i think he is using an old version of wordpad. probably winxp, which doesn't have the home ribbon.

Good thinking... I checked his browser 'fingerprint' and see he is running Vista, so I have moved this to the Windows Vista forum.

Hi Miz, MS Word 2007 has "Home" at the top of the page, but Wordpad has NOT!

I've checked both my current PC (Vista Business) and 2 other comps running XP and Wordpad does not have the "Home" icon.
I'm with James on this one, slightly confused. Neil.

James had originally posted this in the Windows 7 forum, and the Windows 7 version of WordPad does have a "Home" button (actually a Tab).

Thanks Arie, so we're still in the dark about the OS being used? Neil.

I'll try to get my specs up as soon as I can. I'm writing this reply from a library computer as opposed to the one my query is about so that might explain the Vista fingerprint. I'm one of those people who saves money by using free public internet connections and then views everything offline when I get back home (If they wouldn't bundle it with phone and cable I wouldn't be so cheap).

It is Wordpad, not some other software. I'll check out the Tab button.

I looked at my computer and the box and the instructions and the "all programs" and it doesn't say. There came with the instructions something that said I was eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 and remember loading that some time ago. I'm not sure if I had Windows 7 or Vista originally. I'll guess I'll have to load spccy to find out. I bought in in '09, if that's any help.
In any case I think I found a way to fix it. If I wrote it like this:

    Please don't
    double space me.

And I copy it onto Wordpad it will show this sometimes:

    Please don't

    double space me.

But if I press backspace just once it will show this:

    Please don'tdouble space me.

Then I just hold down the space bar and it will move it down to where I want it and then stop even while I'm still pressing down on the space bar. It will show the original.

    Please don't
    double space me.

For some reason your replies get double spaced as well so I don't know how I can show this to you. If the first example I show is double spaced try and pretend it isn't. I didn't write it this way. Can I be any more confusing? :p

As PeteC suggested above, go to this page and follow the instructions to add your system details.

To see which version of Windows you're running, press [WinKey]+[Pause/Break].

Or click Start, right-click Computer (or My Computer) and then select Properties.

(The [WinKey] is the key with the Windows logo on it).

O.K. I'm so sorry for trying your patience. I finally got my computer to the library and installed speccy and followed the instructions (I hope correctly).

Your specs are basically OK apart from the OS - 64 bit or 32 bit - you reference both :)

    Windows Vista's WordPad doesn't have a setting for line-spacing.

Most likely the only work-around is to first copy/paste the data into Notepad. That usually gets it to lose formatting.
