Make sure you haven't installed a legacy driver by running at a cmd prompt: dumppo cap (link to download page)

    Hi, Christer ~

If it is finding a new device and automatically installing, then try w/o the first reboot.

    Hi to a few friends!

First of all my apologies to Abraxas for not responding to his reply! Maybe I was too involved in the discussion with Bruce ...... or it´s my teflon coated memory acting up again ......

unixfan, I haven´t installed any drivers at all, the drivers I downloaded from Compaq's site has not yet been installed.
I thought that following Bruce's directions to "the end" might be a good idea and not starting on another route at the same time.
I´ll install the Compaq drivers if the first route fails.

Bruce, I´ll try that next weekend when I meet with my friend.

    Thanks for now,
    Christer

    Hi all!

I´m back at my friends LapTop, which now has its hibernation activated.

I followed Bruce's advice to the end. I made several attempts without luck.

Next, I went by "The Bad Penny's" advice and installed Compaq's video drivers. After reboot it was there!

    Thanks all, for Your assistance,
    Christer

Congratulations! The video driver is often the culprit when power management has problems, but others can do it, too.

    They must think you're a genius ;) .

    Hi Abraxas,
    thanks for the congratulations!

Well, I´ve told them about this board so now I don´t get credit for anything ...... :( ...... I´m far too honest ...... ......

The sad thing is that I downloaded and burned to CD, all available drivers for this model. After installing XP I trusted that the "magic" of XP had got it right. That was my mistake ...... and that´s the state of me as a genius.

Compaq's are a breed unto themselves. If I need a driver for any other kind of computer, I'll search the net, but if it's for a Compaq, I go to Compaq.

I think your "genius" is still intact. Knowing and remembering all this stuff is impossible, so knowing where to find it is probably the superior skill in the long run ;) .
