I have tried several times to make a Windows7 backup, each time a caption is shown "Did not complete successfully" Changes have no effect. Installed Acronis True Image Home 2012, this caused a none working and I uninstalled Acronis TIH 2012. Has this software caused the error?

Is there an error mesage accompanying that message?
    Don't follow that statement.
Very unlikely - I have Windows Backup imaging the C:\ drive alongside Acronis TIH 2011. Both work perfectly. I use neither for backing up data, none of which is on the C:\ drive, that is taken care of with 3rd party software.

No other errors reported. Changing hard disk has no effect or changing from Windows to I choose has same final result.

Further information given : System cannot find specified file (no file quoted). Try to run back an earlier backup (none found). Change backup settings. (changed hard drive). Final error 0x80070057.

SpywareDr, thank you for reply. I carried out the suggested change of the [.]. The error persists, other captions "Failed to open archive (K). "
"Error occurred while creating the file." Both Acronis and Windows backups show same errors and terminate backups. All external HDs G,H,J,K function ok for access.

There's something else you could try:

    1. In the Search programs and files box on your Start menu type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter simultaneously
    2. In the command window, type the following command and press [Enter]:
      • winmgmt /verifyrepository
    3. If the system returns WMI repository is not consistent, run this command:
      • winmgmt /salvagerepository
    4. The first time you run this it will fail. It will issue stop commands to the services causing it to fail. It might take a couple minutes for the services to shut down. Run the command again. You actually may have to run it 3 times before it finally completes (it will report WMI repository is consistent)
    5. Reboot your system & check Windows Backup

I investigated further into reasons for Backup not being able to activate. Checking Auto runs entries, discovered that three boxes refering to "Backups" were unticked. I proceeded to tick "Backup" boxes, then restarted computer, then carried out another backup procedure. Computer displayed that "Backup" had completed successfully, this applied to Acronis TIH. My thanks to all who assisted me to clear error, most appreciated.

Above error has returned, making my Windows Backup not completing. A caption is shown "The system cannot find the file specified ", no indication is made as to name of File Specified. After an hour, the backup stops over half on the scale shown. I have tried to use a different hard drive for each backup.

Just click on the X button at the extreme top right of the CMD window.

PeteC, thank yor for information. I tried to remember back to my old DOS days when you entered a word to close the cmd window, my memory failed me on this occasion.
Arie, sorry for not answering your reply sooner. Yes, I carried out process as you stated. cmd displayed at end of session "WMI repository is consistant ". I did another backup that took over two hours to complete, no indication made as to being successful. My computer has only a few programs installed other than Windows 7, Anti-malware, IE 9, Revo and Acronis. At times computers appears to fail to recognise some of the external hard drives.

Since last reply, I did another two backups using a different Hard drive letter. Each backup displays "The last backup did not complete satisfactoy ". Acronis carries out backups using the same external hard drives with no errors reported. I would assume Windows 7 backups errors caused by an unknown fault.

Windows Backup is known to be FUBAR. Stick with Acronis instead!

Arie, from day one with Windows 7 64bit backup has caused me trouble and reason being to purchase Acronis. Acronis saves to one of my USB external drives, and would use Windows 7 backup to another USB external drives connected in my computer, solely as a precaution against USB external failure.

Although I have no issues running both Windows Backup and Acronis, images saved to separate drives I also copy the Acronis Backup to a third drive so at anyone time I have 3 hopefully viable images, all validated.

I suggest you dump Windows Backup and copy the Acronis image to your second drive.

PeteC, I fully agree in what you say. What procedure neccessary for Acronis to Backup to two separate USB external drives? will this be simultaneous or require two seperate backups? Regards.

AFAIK you cannot make 2 simultaneous backups - I simply copy the Acronis image file from one external drive to another once Acronis has completed.
