    Paul -
Admittedly we are handicapped by a pretty simple BIOS that doesn't permit any or lets such "much" fine tuning. Although I think you made 2 wise decisions in buying a new PSU and CPU heatsink, you are giving me more credit than I deserve re: your memory.

My memory doesn't remember advising you on your memory although I do remember questioning your memory. If my memory is correct, I questioned your type of memory and specifically advised "getting out your pocketbook" if it was high density memory. Now, I suspect we've all had memory problems at some point in time but I don't remember how you answered that question re: your memory other than a casual reference that you had already replaced your memory. I could be all wrong though and sometimes, one's memory can be very selective. ****, does this mean its time for Aricept? (wish I could remember how to spell that stuff)

Regardless, I do remember that you changed your memory bus speed from 100mhz to 133mhz at some point during this thread. In as much as most memory will run noticeably better at a lower clock speed and since you bumped it earlier in the thread from 100mhz to 133mhz, what happens if you now set it back to 100mhz? Lets not forget that you have cleaned up your system and replaced the PSU & CPU Cooler since that change was made.

    ;)

Optimized or Otherwise? Little I can do from here as your Bios reportedly has no other changeable options and everything else is reportedly squeaky clean. Possibly go back to Charlesvar suggestions of loading apps one at a time to determine or eliminate the possibility of a hung app or crosslinked file even though you say logs are clean. All the posting in the world from me isn't going to do squat so I'll bid you good luck.
    ;)

Day later edit: Thanks Johanna but............. This dog just doesn't seem to want to hunt. Paul - going back to something I posted two weeks ago - "Every FAQ re: your Mobo on the Gigabyte website said to update BIOS "

Well, if Rockster says you've done all you can w/ your hardware, you are on a dead end. Have you considered a last ditch effort at reinstalling XP?

    Clean install

If that doesn't help, NewEgg and TigerDirect are two good places to start shopping. Good luck!

Is there any way I can do some kind of a over the top install of XP , what I mean is can I install XP again without loosing all my programs and data. I have upgraded from Win 3.1,to 95, 95, ME and XP. I have programes that I no longer have the source CD's for. I would loose so much if I did a clean install.

Or you can install a new HDD and install XP on that (disconnect your present HDD first, and reconnect later). That way you wont lose any software, but you'll lose the registration of programs that require it, but most older programs don't, and will run fine. You may have to destroy the XP on the old drive somehow but I'm not sure about that; try without first (e.g., just rename the folder).

I have downloaded a programe call PCBUGDOCTOR and when I ran it it found 256 problems which I allowed it to fix. I haven't had a hang or any problems since then (8 days now) Keeping every-thing crossed.

No Spy or Adware problems but shortcuts and shareware and registery problems. After the free scan I did have to pay to get the key to clean up. This was not made clear when I did the FREE download.
Now all scans of bugdoctor run clean.

Don't want to jinx you so I'll keep my fingers crossed while adding, "break a leg ". You're not the only one hoping its clear sailing from here on out.

It is no over two weeks since I ran PCBUGDOCTOR which cleared up 258 problems since then I have had no hangs or any problems, before it wasn't running even two hours without a hang. My brother recomended it to me as he was also having frequent hangs and it sorted him out. The PC boots up a lot quicker now and everything looks fine

I would be very interested in seeing a log from PC Bug Doctor, to see what was fixed. May be possible to see what was causing the hangs, which might prove very helpful to us all in the future. Does it make a log? Would you mind emailing it to me?

Glad to hear things are working well for you now too. :)

No it does not create a log and it does not give you details of the errors it has found just the type of errors, like invalid CLSID, missing shortcuts, corrupt shared files etc.
