    Hi BB,

You're right, I don't get your point. The email example is an issue with Browsers, and because browsers have permission, malware may come thru - hence browser defenses.

The golfing issue is more to the point. Your friend is allowing a process that you're not, and from what you're saying, you don't know what that is. This is not just a matter of openning a port - but what's going thru that port. I understand that that takes a level of skill and a firewall along with software that can monitor ports such as Tcpview and others that will do the job, but the principle remains.

But aside from all that, to paraphrase Johanna - malware has a chance to be contained with a two-way firewall.

    Regards - Charles

PS: I thought you use Kerio - or am I wrong or you decided to dipense with it?

In this case I disagree with you. I do know what things are. He does not have a Router but does run a Firewall. Nothing complicated there. He either lets me in or keeps me out. My Router with its' hardware Firewall is not that easy. As a test I by-passed the router and my Kerio took over. ( I had it running then ). I had to allow him to get in but he connected just fine when I did.

BTW. While testing, the other two machines were SHUT DOWN. And were not repowered until I had the Router back in line.

But my problem is that if I py-pased the Router I lose my LAN also.

Yes I do have Kerio. I did not dispense with it. It is just not loading.
