You should do nothing, except follow the Malware path.

    Update tool

Of course , If the probleme is "infection" , than first you should try the desinfection first ; however , in my case , this was not the problem ; so by caution , scan the PC for malware , then TRY the repair tool and if it does not work then be assured that :
    1) if you have a PREVIOUS IMAGE of your system at a date where wupdate was working , restore the image , not the restore tool becoause it stocks also the malware in case you have been infected
    2) If you do not have a previous image , there will be no other solution than trying the option REPAIR with the CD of windows ( the procedure requires attention , do not try the first repair option , the next screen should offer you the option to REPAIR the actual installation, I will come back to that point if required ) ; if it does not , reinstall , no other solution in my case . OK Thanks

I am posting the results in the Malware and Virus Removal Forum under the thread “Windows Update Problem”.

The files are long and may take more than one post (or a reply to my own post). I don’t know all that much about forum protocol, but it seems that in a new thread, attachments must be included in the message which limits their size, but on a “reply” you can go “advanced” and attach files which doesn’t have the limitation.
