Thanks, this has helped when I run Windows update with MicrosoftFixIt but still get the error code when I try to run Windows Update. Something screwy going on, don't know what! I guess as long as I can update it one way or the other it doesn't matter just kind of a pain in the neck. Thanks again. When I go to try to uninstall an update(there are 5 of the same update) it says 'there are no updates installed on this computer'. The thing has been auto updated since I started running Vista! seems more is going on than meets the eye!

This error usually indicates that a Windows Update DLL is not registered correctly. Try this:

    1. In Vista's Start Search box type firewall and click the Windows Firewall icon in the Start menu
    2. At the top left click Turn Windows Firewall on or off
    3. Set the firewall to Off and click OK
    4. In Vista's Start Search box type cmd. Right-click cmd on the Start menu & click Run as administrator
    5. Type the following commands. Press 'ENTER' after each command:

      regsvr32 wuapi.dll
      regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
      regsvr32 wucltui.dll
      regsvr32 wups.dll
      regsvr32 wups2.dll
      regsvr32 wuweb.dll

    6. Re-enable your firewall (set it to On)

Thank you so much but I did what you recommended and 'regsvr32 wucltui.dll' and 'regsvr32 wuweb.dll' had the messages that they 'failed to load' and 'modules could not be found', and something about debugging. Any help is most appreciated as I am not very computer literate. Thanks

Dear Sir, I did a sytem restore and then downloaded the updates in Windows Updates. Everything seem to be working now, thanks for your help, I guess this can be shown as resolved. I do not know how to do that.
