ok, got 7. It is slower than 6. took forever to open up the zone to play cards. Then one hand played and it froze and booted me from game for stalling. Nothing has changed except slower now.

Well, at this point, after so many scans, check, etc., I believe, we're back to your main isuue:
    256MB of RAM
It's really very bare minimum for Windows XP, and I see only two options:
    1. You get more RAM.
    2. Clean Windows reinstall, which may help for a while, but after using the computer for few more months, you're gonna be back to the very same problem.

I would like to try one more thing. I spent almost two hours last night reading in MS. The things I read was the amount of solutions they have for IE doing the very thing I am experiencing. I did almost all of the things they suggested except for unplugging all things connected. It also mentioned had I installed any new programs -no.
So, I would like to completely rid myself of any IE programs. After I installed 7 last night, it got much worse.
Need your help to explain how to get rid of IE. Just uninstalling does not seem to remove it as it just reverts back to 6. Is there a way to remove it from all places in my computer?
If you agree, then am asking you to refer me to the "easiest" browser for me.
    Can we try this first?
I will be leaving here on Sunday for a month. If this does not work before I leave, I will just purchase a new computer and will also need you help on this all.
    Thank you..

As I said, I stand by my latest reply, but to answer your questions...
No, you can't uninstall IE, you can only revert it to the previous version. It's a part of Windows, that's why.
As for another browser, I recommend Firefox, which is my personal prefernce.

One more little thing to try...

    Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    will do.
Question: I will install firefox. If so, will it over ride IE if that is my problem?

No. You can have as many browsers, as you want. They won't bite each other.

completed both. About FireFox - WOW!!
But now it won't let me go to the zone to play cards. Keeps saying it does not have a valid certificate. I created an exception they asked for but that still does not allow the zone. keeps saying not secure and won't recognize it even with exception.
one thing: how do I send a webpage to my desktop as in IE, clicked file then send to desktop.
    thank you

If you want to save a whole page, right click, click "Save Page As ".
Do you like Firefox so far?

I just want it to create an icon on my desktop to click on to get to that particular website.
Yes, so far I like it. But I will long be in my grave before I learn how to use it.
What about it not allowing me go to the zone website? keeps saying invalid certificate in use, will not recognize. created an exception as it said and still won't open and keeps sending the same response, invalad...

    Use Bookmarks>Bookmark this page.

Can you post EXACT message, and a link to that site, so I can take a look.

sorry it is so spaced out, but it just copied that way.
    http://zone.msn.com/en/root/default.htm
yyou will hve to keep scrolling down to read the reject...

    Secure Connection Failed

zone.msn.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.

    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

    * This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

    * If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

You should not add an exception if you are using an internet connection that you do not trust completely or if you are not used to seeing a warning for this server.

Yeah, this is what I meant.

    # In the address bar, type about:config > click ‘Enter’.

    # You’ll get a warning message, This might void your warranty!, click I’ll be careful, I promise!

    # In Filter field paste: browser.ssl_override_behavior

    # Double-click browser.ssl_override_behavior, which will appear as a line below, and change the value from ‘1’ to ‘2’.

    # Restart Firefox.

    FYI:
I will be gone a month from Sunday. My daughter is a system design engineer and very savy about computers. She will help me pick out a new computer.
If you can get FireFox to allow zone, I will be happy. if not, I will hve to keep IE on new computer and I'd rather use the FireFox after reading all the bad things IE can cause.
    Thank you

I'm not sure, what else to advice you.
Those two, correct computer date, and/or "browser.ssl_override_behavior" setting were two solutions, I know, worked in all cases.

if you posted an answer to me, it will not show.
Got more info from firefox about the reject:
says: this website does not supply identity info.
Zone does not support encryption for the page you are viewing.

Hope this helps. and hope I can get to your next post...
