Its not an issue LJ. After he gets the confirmation from broni that his computer is free of any malware, he can run the Windows Repair all in one tool and hopefully his OS will work properly again.

Well I simply forgot all about this thread as my computer simply went pear shape due to Avast Antivirus software removing files from computer. Avast Grime Fighter remote clean up, simply crippled registry. Grime Fighter did say at the end of the session "we are still learning ". Warning to anyone thinking of using or should I say buy this software. I got my money back, but no apology.
After a HP back to factory settings, and many adjustments, computer is back working again and best of all Help & Support is back on line. Thank you for interest shown, as always appreciated. Bobby.
Every one condemns Microsoft Security Essentials, it maybe well founded, however in all the years that I have been interested in computers, Microsoft ES or other Microsoft anti virus software, never experienced such trouble as Avast caused me.

Use of basic Avast AV does no harm.;) The paid version is more complex to understand and set up for normal computer users. Stick with MSE or Defender and use WOT. Neil.

Avast in question was the free version and its side kick Grime Fighter was believe it or not, cost £29 with an annual renewable fee. It sounded promising in writing but fatal in practise. People can experience Avast free anti virus and good luck to them.

I suggested maybe a reset back to original factory setting in another one of your threads. Did you save all of your 40yrs. of valuable computing and I hope if didn't take 2 days like you originally predicted. I am glad everything finally worked out and good luck.

To be honest, I started in 1977 with a BBC Acorn computer and gradually moved up as new systems came on the market. Any information, tips are all recorded in a book, to be referred many times and yes your advice has been noted many times. Actually, it did take two days to install the factory settings and additional software, updates etc. Windows 7 was installed originally in 2009, after resetting the computer, Microsoft upgrades was 267 in number, taking a considerable time to install. Thanks for wishing me luck, appreciated.
