It's certainly is good to hear that both WMI and the Firewall are working properly. :D Congratulations! Wouldn't have happened without your willingness to co-operate. ;)
I was hoping they would go hand-in-hand, as one of your missing MOF files contained information specific to the firewall.
There is one change I would like for you to make. Navigate to the CIMOM key and double click the autorecover entry. Click inside the properties box to deselect the entries there. Add the following line to the list.

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM\DGNET.MOF

Click OK to save the changes and exit the registry editor.

If you don't mind, run the diag tool one more time after making that change and send me the log. No need to post it here.

As for the wireless connection, you would likely have more looks by people experienced in that area if you started a new topic in the networking forum, not to mention it may benefit someone else looking through that forum for help at some time in the future. However, if you want to work on it here, I'll be happy to assist as much as I can. If I were guessing (and I am), I would imagine the problem is due to the rebuilding of the WMI. My first recommendation would be to run the network setup wizard to rebuild the workgroup.

Good suggestion to create a new system restore point too! :) I would probably take it a step further though, and purge the previous restore points from the system. To do that, open My Computer and right click Local Disk C: then select Properties. Click Disk Cleanup. Click the More Options tab. Click Cleanup in the System Restore section. They will be purged as soon as you click Yes. Either click OK to allow Disk Cleanup to run or Cancel to skip it.

Sorry, when I tried to enter C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM\DGNET.MOF,
I got the warning, "Data of type REG_MULTI_SZ cannot contain empty strings. Registry editor will remove all empty strings found ". Here's what the
Autorecover entry contains....note the incomplete first line and the three wierd lines at the end.

    That's not good. :(

Close the autorecover properties window, highlight and copy the list below, then double click the autorecover entry and paste the list from the clipboard. Click OK to save.

    Hi Noahdfear:

Well what do you know............it worked.

The log's on it's way via email and I followed your suggestion to purge all but the most recent system restore point.

Thanks Dave. I'll look the log over later today. :)

Did you try running the network setup wizard?

Yes, I did but no luck. I tried to run my DSL setup software but the laptop can't find the modem. It's possible my network card's quit. I'm on the laptop now but communicating via dialup.
