    Mike! Quit confusing her. :D
Windows ME will be JUST fine!

Ok......... is your intention to go wireless with the "old" computer?
(I'd go wired with it........if only for price. The NIC for it, again, would only be about 20 bucks.)

A NIC....is what I linked a picture of, to you, earlier.
    Here's a Nic. Here's another.
This is how it will look, inside your computer. (The computer is laying on it's side.
Perhaps this picture makes it clearer?
Here's a picture of how you'd put it in.

    Easy huh?

    LOL@all the pics!
If you said network card, I would have understood :p

I'm attaching the router to the NEW pc because its NEW :D
The old pc doesn't have a network card, I don't think.

The more I 'learn' the more i UNlearn! How do you keep things straight when there's so much info?! I'll take the 30 yr degree!

I'm so confused. Don't know if it's even the right choice to wipe the old pc clean, and now not sure ME is the way to go. Ughh!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the router will fix my internet problem (miraculously), but if it doesn't, like I said, I'll try IEradicating first and then maybe attempt the tough stuff!

:D NIC = Network Interface Card. Sorry about that.

Yes, you are. But the point of a router, amongst other things...is sto split an internet connection. So you can run more than one computer off that connection. You'll have your New one and your Old one hooked up to it.

You don't think? Turn your Old computer backwards. Take a look at the back. Does it have anything that looks like this ?

Then let's unconfuse you. You can most certainly try IEradicate again..... but if it doesn't work.... then you've got nothing to lose by wiping it and starting again. And as I've said.... Windows ME is just fine. Promise. You're always going to hear others say they prefer one operating system over another. Just like you'll hear people that run Macs, say they'd never use a PC. Or they prefer Netscape over Internet Explorer.

Do you have your New computer up and running tickety boo? Is that what you're using to post with?

Again, I have to agree with Daisy.....darnnit :p There's nothing wrong with putting ME on that machine if you want to. A properly maintained and tuned ME will perform just fine, as will any other OS. If you don't like it, hey, you will know exactly what to do to wipe it and put 98 back on. :D You can also check the device manager for network adapters to tell if the old PC has one.

I've got both computers running now. The oldie is being a pain in the hiney! It has been VERY slow, slower than it would be if I were on dial-up!
So I went into msconfig and unchecked everything. It's okay for a minute, then acts up again! GRRR!!

This is a screenshot of my device manager (I hope this works!)

The link doesn't work for me. Feel free to email it to me if you like?

    You unchecked EVERYTHING in msconfig?
Now when you do a fresh boot....do a ctrl/alt/del and list for us what you have in the close programs dialogue box, please?

Daizy, I sent you a PM.
After a fresh reboot, the only thing that shows up in alt+ctrl+del is "explorer "
I tried to install the software that came with the wireless piece, and after that, couldn't get online PERIOD! Every site said page can not be displayed.
So I removed the software and now I still can't get online.
I'm on the new computer now - I tried to go into network neighborhood to create a network, but can't do it!
    Boy I feel stupid :(

    Thanks. Got your PM.
    Just so we're clear...
You've got your new computer...and it's working just fine and dandy, and the way it should....correct?

The problems we are talking about are only with the Old one?

    Correct.
    New computer is perfect.
Old computer is giving me a migraine.

Although I don't know how to create a network and this could be part of my problem.

    Ok.
I'm not sure I'm completely with you.
You're trying to hook up the old computer to your new router? So that both computers can share the connection?
If so......how? You've already said you didn't have a NIC in it?

    Serenity?
This thread has gotten too long, and much off track.
If you want to network the two computers.... start a thread in Networking....about just that.
Describe both machines...and that you want help to Network them.

I don't know if I have a network card. I tried to post a pic of my device manager, which shows:
    Network adapters
    (ZD1201)IEEE 802.11b USB Adapter
    Dial up Adapter
    Microsoft TV/Video Connection

So does this mean I don't have an NIC?

What makes no sense is earlier today, I was connected to the internet on the OLD computer after setting up the router on the NEW computer.
Now I get nothing on the OLD computer and the NEW computer is still running perfectly fine.

It's okay, I got both computers connected. Still having internet problems but I'll play with it later. It's worn me out.

    G'nite.
