    MS is not forcing you to download/upgrade to Win 8.1 as far as I know. It will be supported till at least 2018 and could be longer.

    Mr. Bill, you are right that MS is not forcing me - directly but its forcing me indirectly as 8.1 cures many of the ills that are there in Win 8. So upgrading to 8.1 is no brainer.

    I have been using 8 since its release and have had no problems with it. Got a couple of friends that bought new PC's with 8 and they aren't having problems either. The only thing that I did for myself and them was to download a Start Menu to make it much easier.
