Back in September of last year we asked this same question.

A lot of things change in a year, so I thought we'd revisit this question now that Windows 7 has been on the market for nearly a year.

I know a lot of people have multiple systems in their house hold, so let's just say that this question is about the PC you use as your main PC.

As for the I am running Windows "X" but thinking about upgrading to 7 question, upgrading in these questions is seen as keeping the hardware but changing the OS.

I ticked I am running Windows XP but thinking about upgrading to 7. I will upgrade to 7 and have bought an OEM license with the hardware for my new BOAC. It will begin its life with XP, enabling me to compare performance differences between my old BOAC and the new one. When that's done, I will install 7 and compare performance differences between XP and 7 on the new BOAC.

Good to see I'm not the only one who would like to go back to XP. Win 7 is not my favorite system right now.

At this point in time, I canot see me building another computer - so XP SP3 forever. This OS has become the stable benchmark so far and because Win7 requires too many hardware changes, I will have to stay with 6 XP's and just keep maintaining them. Neil.:)

When I replaced my 6-year-old desktop last November its replacement came with Win 7 on it. I'm very pleased with it.

My wife's 5-year-old laptop, however, still has XP SP3 on it and doesn't have enough RAM for Win 7.

The difference between the two is dramatic, and the slowness of her laptop drives me crazy. Running the Secunia scan is a good example. The laptop takes almost 3 minutes. My desktop takes 11 seconds.

    Great!

The time saved not rebooting alone makes it a better system. Unless one loves a blue screen, they need to seriously consider moving to 7.

Running WIN 7 on 4 PCs & all were upgraded from VISTA with no problems. Also running Office 2010 with no problems on all 4. Using both 32 & 64 bit versions. WIN 7 is solid.

Because of all the glowing reports about Windows 7 Home Premium I had it pre-installed when I bought a new desktop computer last spring. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that I could find nothing to like about Win7, so I formatted the hard drive and installed XP Pro SP3, which I will continue to use for as long as possible.

I readily admit that I don't march in lockstep with the Gnomes of Redmond, and Billy G probably would be appalled at the way I've configured and use XP. I use the Windows Classic display (think Win9x) and I don't use desktop icons or the QL bar. Instead, I prefer to work from within Windows Explorer and from a highly customized Start menu.

For me, at least, newer (despite all the bells and whistles) does not necessarily mean better.

Windows Vista Ultimate & Windows 7 question.

I have vista Ultimate which I absolutely hate it! Where can I get a copy for free? Possible? My question is can I just copy windows 7 over vista since what I hear it's out there because of all the problems with vista. My IE stops working all the time and no one around me has no trouble with a bunch more issues.
OK again, I have vista ultimate
a copy right by windows 7 with service pack 2
I have 6GB of memory and it a 32bit is my server type.
    Processor Intel(R) core (TM)2 quad CPU Q 6600
    @ 2.40 ghz 2ghz
And if it's possible I can what will I run into along the way.

Been running W7 for about 6 months, and have found it to be at least as stable as XP SP3 - on my machine. Took me about a month to get used to the way it does things, but now I'm really happy with it.
    Cheers

Have been running win7 since it came out in beta and now am running pro 64bit and love it. I still have dual boot capability to win XP Pro SP3 just in case but don't use that much anymore. Have only found very few programs that work only on XP and not 7.

You'll have to upgrade to get a licensed copy, obviously that's not free.

    Hi Jim,

    I'm really supprised :)

I'm still running XP SP3 in a dual boot w/Seven on my what is now a four year old laptop - but XP is getting long in the tooth.

It was Vista that was bad, especially prior to SP1.

The issues go beyond bells and whistles though - while Seven needs more "horsepower ", the hardware/software is used far more efficiently then XP ever could.

And built in security is much better. IE9, thanks to the competition, looks to be so much better than it's predecessors.

BTW, there are a few apps that enables Seven to ape XP's look.

Still running XP SP3 - am content till I get a new PC. At that point will probably switch to Win 7 - unless I have other choices. Have also considered switching to MAC Products, which all my friend have done claiming how easy to use etc., even tho more expensive. They no longer need my help with their computers.

(Horrors that I have even thought about it .)

I'll run XP SP3 for as long as it's supported. My box is 6 years old, so I'll probably junk it and buy a new one with W7 installed, sometime in the next year.
