Would it be prudent to run a re-install of Windows? Since I have a Dell computer I was given an operating disk. Not sure what it is but nothing else is working? Any thoughts?

I would only do a reinstall if its the last resort. See if the Microsoft techs tell you to try something new. If they are at a loss of what to do next then I would back up your data and do a reinstall of Windows 7.

Well what I had to do was re-install my operating system Windows 7 through my disk provided by Dell and then I chose the "Upgraded" version which took about 3 hours to install. After that several of my programs did not work....AVG Internet Security, Office 2007 and some of the basic windows services would not respond. I installed approx. 90 windows updates (important) for Windows 7, and another 70-80 for office. After completing the Windows 7 updates the SP 1 installed properly. Needless to say all of this took a long time....thus the lack of my posting my results. I do thank you all for your help I learned a lot.......
