Tried update Window 7 and MES today, result is a continual search with no result. Is this due to my installation or is Microsoft site down?
It's a common situation. Have seen it take five or more hours before the downloading and installing kicks in.
Thank you for your response. Reason for asking, is for years, on the second Tuesday of the month, late in the day, downloaded the updates. I fully realise that Microsoft is desperately wanting all Windows 7 users to install Windows 10, saving them the need for Windows 7 updates. I need to wait patiently for any updates this month and all future months or install Windows 10.
Installing the latest Windows Update Client seems to help most people with this issue. Latest one is the Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 March 2016
Arie, thank you for response and download, appreciated. Installed Windows Update Client. At the moment it appears not able to find any updates from Microsoft. Is the fault with my computer or has MS not provided any updates this current month, it certainly does not show any caption that "computer is up to date ". Today MSE is now updating as normal.
Is your computer telling you there are updates to be downloaded/installed? Have you let it try to get them overnight?
Not on this occasion, clicking "Check for Updates" results in the blue bar showing indefinitely or until closing down. In the past, caption showed that updates where available. I have tried from 11pm to after midnight, no doubts it would continue till next morning without success.
Bobby, Prior to upgrading one Windows 7 machine to Windows 10, I ran the update process for 19 hours. After about 12 hours I figured it was in an endless loop but thought I would let it run. It did finally complete the search and install the updates. Other Windows 7 machines I have upgraded took exceptionally long to search, download, and install pending 7 updates. Perhaps Microsoft's way of getting people to move to Windows 10
Further checking, found the undernoted enabled me to access and install this month updates. It maybe of interest to others. Start>Type services.msc>OK>Scroll down to and right click Automatic Update services>click Stop in the Left Panel>minimise Service Snapin>Now Windows Updates shows>Click Install>When shows Restart Computer. As this is a first, it may require a repeat next months updates.
Yes, my Windows 7 box - with updates set to Notify, offered the June updates yesterday, 19 as I recall including Office 2010. Just be patient - let Updates do their thing in their own time.
Virginia, I agree in what you say, as only Microsoft would think up this and force all Windows 7 users to change over to Windows 10, nice try MS if this be the case.
It appears that the Date & Time should be checked in cases like "Updates" failure. So I made a quick check and found that my setting had been changed to "Casablanca Time ". Since the 60s when I started my interests in computing, that my Time & Date settings has never been changed without my input. What next?
