OK, so you can cat to the F8 boot menu, that's good. And you say that you cannot click the one that says Safe Mode (without networking). That's how it should be. The mouse does not work on that menu! You must use the keyboard up & down arrows to select an item and then use the return key (enter key) to execute the selected item. Try it again before doing any repair installs or recovery console, which will at this point be too complex a solution.

No...I can get there....and I can select it. When I do, the message I already posted comes up along with a few other tyhings, all which containt Multi Partitioning or something

@ Pete....What's Bios? Is that the F8 thing? If so, I only have the recovery disc, not the XP setup disc...and wasn't it mentioned before that it would delete everything? I don't want that to happen, unless it's the only way out

BIOS - Basic Input Output System - this is a chip on the motherboard which basically fires the system up and enables the operating system to start loading. Amongst other things it detects the memory and hard disks and controls a multitude of basic settings, including the location of where the computer is to boot from - CD-ROM, floppy or hard drive, etc. and in which order it should seek a boot device.

When booting up the computer the first thing you will normally see is a splash screen (picture) or a text screen - along the bottom of which is a message sayinf Press a key (specified as Del, F1 pr ....) to enter setup - this gets you into the BIOS where you can make changes to the basic parameters.

If you only have a Recovery disk you can only use this to restore the computer to the state in which it was delivered. As I emphasised previously this will format the drive and everything on it will be lost. I guess you have no backups?

If the Recovery disk is the only option you can install the hard drive in another computer as slave and copy your data off. Having done that the drive can be reinstalled in the original computer and recovered and your data copied back.

With respect I think you would be well advised to seek local experienced help to resolve your problem.

Sorry for not getting back to you

There was an internal error with the hard-drive. They had to replace it, so I got this problem fixed. WinAntiVirus just happened to be on there at the same time
