I stopped using power management ages ago but, if memory serves, there is nothing unusual about having two instances.

I hope your problem has been resolved but I would not have stopped until I proved conclusively that shell32.dll was not corrupted. After all the work you did you stopped at the last fence and I provided you with the means to prove one way or the other whether your shell32.dll is corrupt or not. If you do not eliminate suspects from your enquiries then how do you know that the next problem which has the same suspect amongst others is not the source of both problems.

'procsys.ini' is an INItialization file and is inert. It is read by an application. I don't recognise it and neither does Google.

The two PowerProf entries were normal.
This procsys.ini is not normal. It will open in Notepad, perhaps post the contents?

GammE: I ran the test as you recommended & got the same exact string ...NOTE: I had to modify your instructions slightly, as my 'MS DOS' prompt is returned as'C:\ windows>'....therefore I had to input the md5file into my Windows file before it would run...
Again, tx for all your help...

    Oh, well done.

You can easily change the prompt to any path - that is make it accomodate us rather than move files around to accomodate it but thats a DOS thing.

You can now rest easy and not "˜wonder if’ in the knowledge that you shell32.dll is as fresh as it was when you opened the packet.

In future, if ever it is a suspect amongst others you now have the means to either quickly remove it as a suspect or confirm it is the culprit.

Again, well done and fingers crossed the problem is now dead and buried.
