    Hi friends

Because some applications require a fix TCP.v4 address, I set the OS to a fix IP.

However whenever the system reboot, the network seem to fail. On diagnosing win7 reports that DHCP is missing. Allowing system to repair, it will put system into dynamic addressing.

I have another set of PC.win7 that does not manifest this, meaning the fix address don't give any connection problem.

TCP.v6 are both set to auto.

What is happening? What did i fail to do to cause this constant error reporting.

    Hi guys

There seem to be no response to this thread because it looks like one of those that only God know why, some undefined malfunction of hardware or OS (like the famous ms blue screen) .. unless i conclude wrongly why this silence.

This may help to prompt you experts to response.
Whenever there is a failure to access internet, i had to disable the connection device, next enable, then it work. This almost happen every time i reboot the win7 OS. So what your diagnosis?

LAN card drivers perhaps ? Uninstall the drivers & install them again. Use the drivers provided by the motherboard manufacturer.

The problem is NOT the drivers.

Solution if using a static LAN IP address:

    1. Open Network & Sharing Center.
    2. On left, select Change adapter settings.
    3. Rt click the adapter & select Properties.
    4. Uninstall QoS...
    5. Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
    6. Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
    7. Click Advanced button > WINS tab.
    8. Uncheck Enable LMHOSTS & select Enable Netbios over TCP/IP & OK out dialogs.
    9. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
10 Double click DHCP Client > Set to Disabled & Stop button.
    11. Reboot and "DHCP is missing" message will not occur.

FYI, you do not need TCP/IPv6 for anything yet UNLESS you are assigning a static IPv6 address, & rest assured, you probably won't need to do that in your lifetime. There are no Internet domains that require IPv6 only.

If use a static IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 is enabled AND DHCP Client is enabled, Windows will try to set a dynamic IP for IPv6 and fail on IPv4.

Just curious, what applications require a static IPv4 address?

Much much appreciate the full advice. Some Malaysian FoxPro accounting package.

You are right about the driver, on checking it is a fully working version from supplier. :)

Friend, follow the steps, so far no new manifestation.

Should be ok, as the problem was not throwing up for a while even before these steps. It could have been a contact issue too as i did make sure the wire connection fits right.

    Kind Regards.
