    thank you for that!
Right I am now in the recovery console.
Now, instead of it asking me what windows installation i want etc, it has the first 3 lines in the picture you attached of this part, then it just says

    C:\>

and that's it... is that okay for my to continue from there? Just concerned because it doesnt look exactly like the image you posted!

Skip those three ATTRIB commands and see, if you can continue with:
    del boot.ini

    C:\>BOOTCFG /Rebuild

Scanning all disks for Windows installations.

Please wait, since this may take a while...

Error: Failed to succcessfully scan disks for Windows installations.
This error may be caued by a corrupt file system, which would prevent Bootcfg from successfully scanning. Use chkdsk to detect any disk errors.

Note: This operation must complete successfully in order for the /add or /rebuild commands to be utilized.

    C:\>

    Should i move onto checkdisc?

You can try, but I don't think we'll get anywhere.
Go ahead though. It won't harm anything.

I believe, you'll need that Windows CD.

Hi there, got the disc, currently running the Windows repair. It is quite scary that it shows as an Install even though it's a repair! I have such a fear that its gonna delete all my stuff. I see some people on that other forum saying that you need to reinstall all your programs you had on the computer originally. Does this mean that the programs list will be totally empty? Or will all your old programs show up but just wont work, i can't remember the names of all the ones i used :(

Right, i have encountered a problem that it seems has been quite common with other people who have performed the same task as me, but i'd rather take your advice as you have been solid since the beginning. Now that it has repaired and done chkdisk, i get the win xp slash screen with the Please Wait... bit, but it's been frozen for AGES. I have read on many other sites that does sometimes happen and you need to restart the machine and it kicks in fine, but I'd rather take your advice... any ideas?

    Go ahead.
Remember, that, if anything goes wrong, you should always be able to access your data, using OTLPE CD.

    Thank you for your help!
The computer is running as usual now :)
Now can i ask, when we were doing all the things we did before, did we remove any viruses, or will my computer still be littered?
I am currently running spybot search and destroy, will use my other virus programs too, and also my McAfee says im not protected, but when i try to scan with it, the program opens but the window is just white, is this because i haven't yet plugged the internet back in (my fear is that if i dont catch the viruses before plugging the net back in they will go crazy again). Thank you once again for your incredibly valued support, i will be making a donation to the site :)

    Good :)
I assume, Windows repair went through?

If so, you may need to reinstall some programs, including McAfee.
    Let's do this...
Turn Windows firewall on and reconnect to the internet.
When you fix you McAfee issue (reinstall?), make sure to turn Windows firewall off.

When you're done, let me know and we'll run some scans.
I'll be back here later this evening....
