    Hi gghartman,

You probably have looked all thru jvPT's catagories, but let me go thru the all the places that this sucker might be hiding anyway.

    In the:
    uninstall menu
    shell extensions
    IE context menu
    open with menu

Did you do search for reg items?

When you do Tools > Reg cleaner, did you show ignored items? Those will come up in red.

Did you try Tools > remove custom software?

Another reg cleaner to try is RegSeeker http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm If you right click on Installed apps > invalid Add/Remove entries, it might be that.

    Regards - Charles

went through every thing you mentioned and just got through trying regseeker and i cant believe nothing was found. makes absolutely no sense. found nothing on m.s. site nothing on mcafee. have an email into dell to see if they have a clue. never really watched that before so not sure if this is a new problem with the new dell models or if its been happeing before and i just over wrote those variables with the protection i put on.

there is nothing on these machines lately that reflects any remanants of mcafee. its the first thing i do when i set these new machines up is go into safe mode and use the admin id and uninstall mcafee. finds to many processess open when i try logged in normally and it wont let me uninstall unless in safe mode.

    very strange.

    Hi gghartman
Got this when I uninstalled McAfee, maybe it will help?

    How do I Uninstall VirusScan?
Summary: This article provides steps to remove VirusScan from your computer.

    Product Versions
    McAfee VirusScan 8
    McAfee VirusScan 9
    Operating Systems
    Windows 98 / 98se / Me / 2000 / XP Home / XP Pro

    Automatic Uninstall of VirusScan
    Click on the Start button.
Click on Control Panel. The Control Panel will then appear.
Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box will then appear.
Locate McAfee VirusScan on the list of installed programs and single click on it so it is highlighted.
    Click the Add/Remove button.
Note: If at any time you are prompted to remove shared files, answer Yes To All.
Windows will then attempt to remove McAfee VirusScan from your computer. If McAfee VirusScan is successfully uninstalled you do not need to complete the remaining steps in this document. If you receive error messages or find that McAfee VirusScan was not completely removed then follow the steps below to manually remove the program.
If VirusScan is the only McAfee service installed on your computer, uninstall SecurityCenter. If an automatic uninstall of VirusScan was unsuccessful, please follow the instructions below to completely uninstall VirusScan.

Note: Browse the folder and if you see a component that you are unsure of what program it belongs to like long random names with numbers and letters, double click on it and look under the code base. If it's from Download.McAfee.com, then delete it.

If VirusScan is the only McAfee service installed on your computer, uninstall SecurityCenter.
