I log in and check the box "remember me ", but the next time I come here, I have to log in again. This isn't only happening here- it's at a couple of sites i visit. Some others work fine. I have my cookies set to accept all. I deleted all IE's stored passwords and autocomplete and temp files, and logged in again. Clicked out, came back and had to log in again! What am I doing wrong? Vista IE7 all updates.

Try clicking Log Out, then log back in and check the Remember Me box.

Thanks I did that. Can't even stay logged into sites I own. Never had a problem with strict cookie settings in IE7 using XP. I think I've been logged into the BBS for 4 years or so.

Hey, you're about to reach 10,000 posts on the BBS! Shouldn't we be throwing a party of something? I'll make you some peanut butter cookies. I owe you.

Nope. Got any registry keys I can delete? Ha ha you can't blame this one on poor maligned Norton.

Well if NAV were still installed I'd have several thousand for ya. :p

    First log out.

    Custom cookie settings.

    1. Override automatic cookie handling
    2. Allow First Party
    3. Block Third Party
    4. Always allow session cookies.

    Clear all cookies.

Did you install Ad Subtract or anything else that might affect cookies?

Nope, nothing installed but CA, and not the spam or phishing parts. No ad blockers, no security software other than the CA firewall & AV. I'm stumped. Tried everything you suggested.

Session cookies are allowed, sites are in trusted zone, too. Autocomplete works on some of the sites, but not the BBS. Maybe i need to ask Arie to zap my account and create a new password salt. I've done that on the IPB board successfully a few times, but i couldn't possibly explain how it works. (what's a salt, anyway?)

I can Google too...but the salt has no effect on session cookies. sigh. The only site that will let me stay logged in is Google, gmail and igoogle.

Yes, and before I cleared the cookies that way, I took ownership of my doc & setting files and deleted them manually. Another Vista quirtk- the C drive files belong to the system, not the admin.

Hope you don't mind my jumping in here, but I have the same problem. When I log out I get a message "all cookies cleared ", maybe that is why. I have found, if I just close my browser without logging out I stay logged in. Don't know what the "timeout" setting is though.

Ehh.. let's see... you click Log Out... now what would you expect to happen next when you come back? Yup, you guessed right: you'd have to Log In :D

Sorry, but it seems rather clear to me

OK, I'm thinking that Johanna isn't clicking Log Out? If she isn't, it is a problem with the cookie being deleted. There's not much point in "resetting" an account, as you say, it happens to more sites. Something is interfering with yer cookies!

Yes, I expect to log in again:), but it's not remembering me. So I have to type in my username and password every time. It's not a chore and I'm not so lazy I can't type a few characters; but if the option is there.........

For the last 4 years or so I have never clicked "log out" on my home computer, just clicked the X and left. When I return, I am "Johanna" and all is well. (I would NEVER do this on another computer!) On my old XP install there were cookie managers and I set sites lie the BBS to trusted and thus never logged out of The New York Times either. It was a convenience.

Arie- correct- something is messed up with my cookies. It's no big deal on sites like this to log in, but on the sites I admin, well, it's a pain.

UPS just brought me a big box with a brand new computer. I've got quite a bit to do, and whether IE7 wants to remember cookies is the least of my problems. That XP drive dying may have ben a blessing. I'm gonna love Vista on better hardware, and I'm finally free of Norton. Hey, and my kids will be thrilled with my old computer. There's a sign up sheet and a line for time on the other family computers.

That is something else. You are talking about IE's (or FF's) password remembering feature.

    Now you're talking ...... Enjoy!

What was that old saying? The only difference between mom and pop - when mom has a problem, she likes to shop.

Great to see you back here - you've been sorely missed along with that dry sense of humor.

    ;)

Actually, doing the shopping was easy. Dave did it for e. He said, "Get this one, good deal!" I still can't stay logged in, and I have two tons of catch up work to do on everything I let slide during this past week, but this system runs like a champ. I think I'm starting to like Vista. I've been dual booting for a year or so, but 95% of the time it was into trusty faithful XP. I'm getting the hang of the new Windows Explorer, and the tabs, but the UAC had to go. I get enough backtalk from my kids.

I'll be around more often, Rockster! Count on it! :D
