MSE + HostsMan -- I consider HostsMan an essential AV product, as it offers a quick way to prevent malware from phoning home (if they use DNS). As a plus, it removes most advertising in browsers, etc.

If you're not familiar with HostsMan, it uses the computer's hosts file to redirect advertising & malware connections to the loopback address 127.0.0.1 -- effectively disabling them. There are a number of publicly-available hosts files, regularly updated, that contain entries to be disabled; my current hosts file contains over 200,000 DNS names. One of the hosts file providers, HpHosts, has a bleeding-edge version that is updated within minutes of suspected malware site discoveries.

No, I don't work for HostsMan. I just love effective, simple applications.

I use Agnitum's Outpost Security Suite Pro. Was first introduced to them when I won a free lifetime subscription offered by them. I currently have two systems running it.

I checked paid for Norton antivirus. Actually as others have mentioned, it is free for me with my Comcast subscription. It consists of the entire Norton Security Suite.

Malwarebyte Pro -- after using the free version for sometime, decided it was only fair to pay for the Pro version and inable the future versions to be written. I certainly find the Pro version is much more efficient and alerts of any infections as they are found.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is not an Anti-Virus program. It is designed to find malware (malicious software) that Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs might miss, including rogue security software, adware, and spyware.

I'm using Kaspersky now! It's great. All the rankings proves this. Read Antivirus programs review. I was using ESET NOD32 before, but it used too much RAM and slowed my PC

I think in "my opinion " it is whom ever pays somebody the most to put theirs up top. I know that they all claim to be independent labs doing this, but 10 different sites will give you 10 different answers. I know what has worked and not worked for me and that is what I stick with.

The number of variables involved in exactly how to go about testing Anti-Virus solutions are mind-boggling: Hardware, Operating System, Drivers, other installed Software, Updates, and of course the combination of viruses that are going to be used for the test. Hence, the "best" Anti-Virus solution on one setup may not prove to be so on another.

You now need to through the end user into the mix. If they can't, or won't use the software, it's useless.

The "best" approach is to build a multilayered defense using a combination of well-known and respected hardware and software solutions that you are comfortable using.

I fully appreciate that Malware is not Antivirus preventative, however on Saturday Malware reported two Trojans where located in my computer, quarantined them, then allowed later to remove them. Been lucky, first trojans and be they be the last.
