What's your favorite monitor brand & what screen size do you have? Single/Multi monitor means if you are using one or more then one monitor on a single PC.

I have 3 different brands. A Philips (my favorite), Envision, and Dell. All are 17" and work pretty good. My next one will be a flat screen of at least 19 ". Some day. :)

    What happened to IIyama ?

I run 2 in dual monitor mode (20" & 17 ") - primarily for Photoshop plus an HP Vista Busuness box with an HP 19" monitor.

I'm running 2 Samsung 22" Wide screen (1-2232GW and 1-226BW) on my main PC and a 20" Viewsonic (VG2021m) on my Linux PC. The 2232GW is fantastic and I plan to get another to replace the 226BW.

At work it's all Dell's of all sizes (17" through to 24" Wide)

I'm running dual Samsung SyncMaster 930BF (19 "). Prior to those I had Panasonic PanaSync SL70i (17 ") which I also ran as dual monitors. The Panasonics are still in use though. 1 is attached to my Windows Home Server (which I hardly use the monitor with, as I log in from the console on my Vista machine), the 2nd one is used as an external monitor on my wife's laptop.

Just took the plunge. Upon arrival (Thursday), I'll be setting up a new 26" Samsung 2693HM on my KVM switch connected to XP Pro and MCE machines. Its replacing a Samsung 21.5" SyncMaster 204t which will be moved alongside its twin brother to run dual monitors on my new Vista Ultimate installation. Friday I'm moving into the poor house.

I had a 15" IBM CRT that was my "favourite" monitor for many years. Crystal clear. I found it had a recall on it and I was worried that might not come back the same way. I sent it in, it was returned very promptly. It gave me several more years of use. For crystal-clearness (high defition? :)), I would prefer it to most the new "big screens ".

I saw an IBM 23" or 24" CRT the other day, but it took up most of the desk :D

These last few years I'm on a lovely Viewsonic P810 (~20 "). Bought it at the local auction for $10!! Has both VGA and 5 x BNC composite inputs. She doubles for DVD/VHS use and seems almost 3D. All the time before had watched them on 20" TV and really missed out. (Feel sorry for Terry Fox: you musta gotta rare bad 'un dude)

It replaced a monstrous 90 pound 21" NEC that was slowly loosing focus (it was a freebee from a graphic artist who thought the thing was dying). I had to get out the tools, pull the cover and reset it every 6 months. Went to a friend suffering graphic work on a barrel-inhibited 15 ". Still in service.

Previously had a great old CTX 17" for 8 years (also from auction and cheap). After I got the NEC it moved to my tech PC. A friend suffering with an eye-killing 14" bowling ball got it in exchange for a few dozen farm eggs and is now very happy too.

Before that, a 15" Amdek which I'd checked mag reviews for 6 months and waited for the price to fall below $300 new in 1993 (including shipping and the last one I will pay near full boat for). After a previous geek life of green and amber screens it was heaven.... ahhh, the original joy of dialing up King's BBS (Denver) at 14.4 kbaud and getting full ANSI color (had to be there)! Now it's in the basement for bench test use today.

I've still got two excellent 21-inch Nokia 445Xpro monitors (BNC & 15 pin connectors) salted away (1600x1440 @ 85Hz) but they require too much desktop real estate. Even if they didn't, I'd be hard pressed to go back to them and would put either of my SyncMaster 204t's up against them.

Now, if anybody wants to be nostalgic, has a big truck and a little pocket change, either one of these puppies could be adopted for a fraction of their original $1600+ selling price.

    I didn't think so.

    Here! Here!

Iiyama for me too. Splendid monitors.

However, I'm currently at my work desk where I have a 19" Acer which is fine.

Most serious monitor issue for me has been the move to wide-screen monitors. Seemed like a bad move to me as what I want is height, so that I can see as many lines of a document as possible. Wide-screen is fine if you want to watch films, but the thing I want to do most on a computer is work on documents or code; both are mostly taller than they are wide.

However, now that the larger 20" and bigger monitors that will support 1680x1050 are easily affordable, I'll probably go to one of these next. 1680x1050 is slightly taller than the 1280x1024 I currently run at. So I'll get similar height plus extra width - so more room to view two documents side by side. Or more toolbars in NetBeans, without encroaching into the main coding area.

So a 22" Iiamya on my wish list.

T'would seem you need a good old Radius monitor! They rotated 90 degrees for just your usage. Now I do seem to recall some modern flat monitors that can do the same. Can't recall if it's just software that converts to a vertical format and if it works with any of them or what....

Any one out there got a clue? (And since I don't want to derail this thread, do we need to move this discussion to an off thread thread?)

Hehehe ....... My Samsung 2693HM and my 204t's have that feature. Screen can be rotated 90° to view portrait orientation as well as the normal landscape orientation. Haven't used it much though.

    Ah-HA! So it's true....

Are the monitors plug-n-play for this, is it part of the driver pack, or a program you install for the function? Give it up! :p

Part of the monitor's software package called Magic Rotation. Permits 90°, 180° or 270° rotation of view.

I have the same feature with my graphics driver (independant of monitor), Fairly useless with the monitors I have though, but the rotation does work without any noticable increase in system resources.
